Lost to WRX AND got a Ticket

Once again I lost a street race. You see, there is this 30ish guy who drives a WRX Impreza like a rallycross car. I mean, hes out in the snow hitting like fifty and sliding around corners. Hes actually pretty good at it though. Anyway, on Saturday it was warm enough to melt off most of the snow and wash the salt off the roads, so i figure, hey, a perfect time to take out the RSX-S. I wasnt planning on racing anybody and wasnt taking the revs past 3 grand to kind of loosen it up. I havent driven it since early November either, so i wasnt exactly at my peak driving skills with it. So im driving on whats called the good spring stretch out here in Tremont Pa, which is probably the only 2.7 or so straight stretch in semi-decent condition in the state. Im about 1/4 miles into it cruising at 65 in 6th when i get high beamed from behind. Now one of the things you gotta know is that this stretch is known for ppl racing and getting busted, theres plenty of dirt roads for cops to lurk in. so hes hi beaming me and pulls into the left lane (4 lane road). We both stop after some hand signal confusion and proceed to set up the race. now little do we know that at this moment a state trooper was watching us. so we both gun it, i didnt pass 7000 rpm bcs its the first time ive driven it in months (i know, excuses excuses) and he passes me out in first and stays ahead. i was doing about 80 when like 200 ft ahead of us lights flash and a siren blares. needless to say we both stopped. it was so embarrasing. i mean, the goddam cop watched us line up and everything. what a dick. so i got off with a $286 ticket for racing on a public street which im going to fight bcs i feel that was entrapment. I didnt get a speeding ticket bcs he 'let us off with a little lesson.' you couldnt see the car at all through the brush and he didnt have his driving lights on as is mandatory in Pa. Now i know street racing is bad blah blah blah, but c'mon, nearly no one can afford to pay at a track every time they feel like driving a little sporty. Besides, in my 3 yrs of driving i have never gotten a ticket before, although i did get pulled over for failing to turn off my high beams to oncoming traffic for which i got a warning. anyway, just venting, and oh yeah, factory turbo cars are for pansies. all motor for life!

sounds to me like you deserve the ticket. you never should've stopped in the road should have gone from a roll. but you still would've got caught. oh well learn from this.

The entrapment wont fly, unless it was a cop in the WRX as well. But, the discrepency with the parking lights not being on, might be worth contesting the ticket even though you got it fair and square. But, its your word aginst his, and he is going to say he had his lights on. Try to get the WRX driver to come along and vouch that the lights where off.
Keep us posted and keep racing on the track.

Well im gonna go in and fight it, but its scheduled for the 15th of March, so ill have to try and reschedule the court date. im going to the HIN (Hot Import Nights) in Philly on the 15th, so The Man can wait.
BTW, thx abt getting the WRX guy to come in too. didnt even think of it.
P.S. there are no tracks within 75 Mi of my home, so that busted a$$ piece of highway is all that i got
anyway, ill post on how it goes...

Definitely won't get an entrapment ruling. That cop would have to trick you into racing to get that one. The parking light thing will also probably be overruled. Keep the racing on the track man. If you have to go 75 miles to race, so be it. Better safe than sorry.

Try fighting but be happy man. I live in Mass. and me and my friends in Camaro's were going down this secondary highway at 4am. We were just following each other no passing or anything. It was 45 and we were doing like 55. Cop pulled us over and wrote us all up for Driving to Endanger. Drag Racing, Speeding. Drag Racing in Mass is a criminal offense. So I had to get a lawyer and shit so I didn't lose my license or goto jail. Cops are Fucking Liars!

Yo, sorry to hear that, the thing that sucks is once the cop saw you both line up and stop, he could have ended it there, but he let you guys race, so u'll get busted, what a dick. By the way dude, im from montgeryville Pa, sort of close to Philly, where is import night???

Yo Pontiactrac
Hot Import Nights is March 15 at 5:00 P.M At the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Tickets avail. at www.hotimportnights.com for $27.50
Hope to see y'all there
BTW
I think u guys are right abt the entrapment. I talked to Steve (the WRX guy) and he agrees that entrapment wont fly either. Our only hope is that The Man pulls a no show at the court, which this particular officer is well known for. What really irks me is that this was the first time in six months i raced someone, and the first time i got nailed. Hopefully i can get some track time in this summer (never been on one yet)

not to put you down or anything. I used to street race all the time, huge groups of guys and girls going out and having a good old time, like f&f but less gay. Anyways, everytime we go you do a search down the road for cops, you go up and down and check all side roads untill you are sure there are no cops. I have a long story about lots of police cars and a helicopter that i will share later i have to go pick up my girl from school.

here in this area, if you are caught drag racing and it's pre planned i.e. (like you did lining up and stopping and all) it's automatic impoundment and auction of your vehicle. so you got off easy my friend. the parking light thing will never hold, all he has to do is say that they were on. it's his word against a person who was drag racing breaking the law. sucks doesn't it??

Well ive learned my lesson here. The Man failed to show up in court so i got off without laying out a dime, but this is the last time ill street race off a track or over the speed limit. Steve (the WRX guy) had his day last Fri and had to pay.
about the 94 WRX STi, its a station wagon. it isnt quite 100% STi, or even 50% STi, just the engine. i bought the STi engine from James Bailey, who had imported an STi in 98 (converted to LHD). he subsequently wrecked it and parted it out. i bought the engine minus the turbo in 2002, as I had a 94 Impreza wagon in need of an engine. beyond the engine, the transmission, clutch and half the interior needed replaced on my wagon. currently it is not turbocharged, and i dont plan on turbocharging it. the engine works but is not installed in the vehicle, nor is the clutch and tranny. i am putting it up for sale sometime this month on eBAY to fund my new project car. the engine has 60,500 miles on it, the wagon has 85,700 miles on it.

i was gonna say...
if you've got the turbo motor (low comp pistons) in your car with out the turbo, power would suck...
sounds like a good piece to build a project motor out of though...
