I was about to buy a GTI a few weeks ago and then at the last minute I decided to check out the Mazda3 Sport GT and was pleasantly surprised by the fully loaded version. Overall the Mazda3 is about 5K cheaper and also more economical to operate (better mileage and regular fuel). Just not sure the 3's performance.
Any thoughts/opinions?

theyre not exactly in the same category performance wise. with rising gas prices, you need to analyze your gas budget, if the gti fits that budget i would pick it hands down. if not, the 3 might be a better economical decision.

I bought a GTI but drove a Mazda3 b4 I made my decision. The 3 is anemic in power and struggles to get any kind of speed. Also, it was creaking and moaning in the turns and made me feel like it was going to fal apart. Mind you, this is a brand new car.
Also, 5 door hatches dont do it for me at all. And remember, Ford is behind this car...so, make your bed where you want.
I dont regret my decision at all. I love my GTI.
