Fuel injector electrical connections

Can anyone tell me the electrical connections for the 99 grand am se 3.4L V6. I see numbers on the electrical connections that seem to match up with the cylinder numbers that are on the top of the LIM, but I just want to make sure that those two sets of numbers match up. I didn't remember to label the connetions before I disconnected them.

Every time I've noticed the numbers, they do match the cylinder number, but sometimes I don't notice stuff. I don't think you could put them to the wrong injector if you tried, there's barely any extra wire.

Yeah I had thought about that a little while ago. I just replaced my LIM gasket and I'm getting a pretty bad misfire when I start the engine. More than likely I overtightened a few of my rocker arms and thus, not getting any compression. When it decides to stop raining I will test it out.

Yeah, even if the connectors were hooked up to the wrong injectors, it wouldn't cause a misfire. It could possibly run a bit rougher than normal, you'd still be getting all the fuel you need and at the right time. Many older multi-point injection systems have one injector on each intake runner, but they all fire at the same time... firing at the wrong time on yours would essentially be the same thing, but could cause a slight problem since the engine was designed for sequential injection.

Also, how long did you let it run before you decided to shut it off? I've done lots of LIM gaskets, and on some the cars were pouring smoke outta the exhaust and barely running for the first minute or so.

If you end up doing another LIM in the future, there is a $12 tool that goes on the rocker arm and releases the pushrod without even touching the nuts. It's worth every penny, even if you only use it once!

I only let it run for about a minute. I may try and let it fun for a little longer. That tool sounds like a good deal, I may go and look for it next time.

Those rockers are a little tricky to set right.
The torq is no problem, its that damn 30 degs that usualy causes problems. They all have to be within 1-2 in lbs.

First I torq them all, then go back and do the second step.

I use a piece of cardboard cut into a pie @ 30 degrees.
Hold it on top o the bolt/ratchet and pull it the 30 deg.
If I think its not perfect I loosen it and start over on that one.

Maybe you just havent got the oil primed up in the lifters yet.

Which connects are you reffering too ?

the injectors ?

All the plugins are marked which cylinder they goto.
OR Are you are having troubles gettting them loose ?

I had got them correct. Currently I am dealing with a gas leak at on the 6th injector. I may have fixed it, but I won't find out until the rain breaks up long enough. Question though, how rough of an idle were you all getting when you started up you G/A after replacing the LIM gasket?

Very rough. The engine wouldn't start without giving it gas and would die if not held above idle, damn thing shook like crazy too. There doesn't seem to be any reason why it happens... as far as I can tell no significant amount of coolant or oil gets in, but the smoke and horrible idle has to be from something geting into the cylinders when the LIM is removed :dunno:

Xero, have you ever tried the tool I was refering to or do you always do head gaskets while the lower intake is off? Either the price went up a bit or our tool guy gave me a deal, but even $19 is worth it.

Well my head and lower intake change recently, ran fine on the first start up.

One thing I do is remove the ICM fuse and the injector fuse, turn the key on untill the fuel pump stops. Then shut if off look for leaks(gas mostly) tune the key on again and prime the system some more then I crank it over for a couple 3-4 times to get the oil pump going before it starts. Then reinstall the fuses and see if it fires up. :2cents:

No I dont hav one of those tools, but I have other types of devices to remove the pushods with out removing the rockers. Realy doesnt save much time IMO.

I suppose it depends on experience. The very first LIM I did, I removed the nuts, then before I did the next one, Matco came out with that tool. 25 years of removing the nuts probably gives you some confidence, but I feel better knowing I won't ever have to take a valve cover back off 10 minutes before quitting time. I never had a problem, but still...

Alright, mine is shaking like crazy too when I start it up. I should have it back together tonight or tomorrow, depending on if all these distractions (rain, people needing help) stop.

Then I'd bet it's just fluids in the cylinders. You'd have to miss a lot of nuts for it to shake that bad becasue of that. When you say get it back together, did you recheck the connectors or nuts or what? I don't want to make you put it back together just because I gave you hope that it doesn't have to go apart further :)

I didn't miss any. I made sure to label every single one by wrapping them in paper tape and using a permanent marker. I know that I definitly have to replace the motor mount over by the power steering pump sometime in the future. When I ment put it back together I ment just put the upper manifold back on and all the connection that go to it. Currently I'm just dealing with a fuel leak I was getting when I started the car.

I guess I got lucky too. I just put mine back together after changing the LIM gasket last night and it fired right up after maybe a second of cranking, I swear it sounds smoother than before too, but that might have something to do with the new plug wires I put on after breaking 1 taking the old ones off. All I did before was turn the key on and off a few times to build up some fuel pressure and bleed the air out of the fuel rail(and make sure I wasn't leaking gas).

Yeah I think so. I'm just having all kinds of bad luck. One of my rocker arm bolt holes somehow stripped out. I fixed that today. Now I'm under the speculation that my valve cover gasket may have been damaged. I'm hoping that isn't the case. Not to mention that when I went to take my belt off, my belt tensioner broke apart.
