Hey guys Ive got a '90 Chevy c1500 and its got 145000 miles on it. Just recenetly I swapped out the stock engine and put in my own built 350(carb) with a new TCI tranny. Anyways my problem is that after I let it sit in the the driveway for about a week I noticed some tranny fluid leaking to the point where it started to make a puddle. So yesterday I took a look underneath and I noticed that the leak was coming through the center of the tranny yoke spline. THERES A LITTLE WHOLE RIGHT IN THE CENTER AND IT'S LEAKING FLUID PRETTY BAD. I was wondering if anyone had ever had this happen to them and hopefully you could give me some insight.

Thanks in advance for any help( I'll try to get some pics up a.s.a.p)

It is a vent hole.
Do not try to plug it.
You need to remove transmission tail shaft and check the round tin tube on the back of tail shaft.
If the tube is there and has not been throwed away or slipped out of place.
You will find a rubber o ring seal in it.
Replace the O-ring seal

Hey thanks alot for the help, but is that o-ring something Icould pick up at the local auto parts store or am I going to have to special order it. Also would you happen to know the exact name of it? Thanks again for your reply I am going to try and get to it this after noon and I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh yeah I almost forget,schofell84 (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=57562) the truck is running fine, it's just that after letting it sit for a week or so IO notice this leak. It had not been leaking anytime before.

Yes parts place shuld have a O ring assortment.
Remove the old one and match it up.
Make sure the metal tube is tight on rear tail shaft and make sure it has one.
Sometimes the get throwed away and some years do not have them.
Only used for the driveshaft yokes that have the vent hole in them.
A carry over from the good old days.
Your young techs will not even know what they are.
If no metal tube/collar stop by a local transmission shop and see if the have any.
Good Luck

MT....i got a similar leak...its where the driveshaft enters the trans....ive looked around and think its called the "rear housing seal"....i talked to a fella and he said all you got to do is pop the old one out with a flat head and shove the other in....he said about a five minute job...that sound right to you??

Sorry I took so long, but I finally got to it yesterday and it turns out that my TCI transmission doesn't have that metal sleeve your talking about MT. So I went over to a old 700 R4 I had sitting in the garage and I took the tailshaft off and it did have the sleeve with the o-ring. So I called TCI and asked them if there was some kind of o-ring on my TCI tranny where the output shaft is and he said no. He told me I would either have to plug the slip yoke I have or buy a new one without a vent hole.

Or use the metal sleve from the old transmission.
They will tap off and on.
Good luck

One that have it are vented for a good reason.
If you plug it it may cause excessive back lash on transmission plantary gears and result in transmission damage.
It is just as easy to fix it right.
