I have a 1998 C3500 Crew Cab Dually with the 7.4L 454 Engine, auto tranny,152K miles. I haven't had any problems with this truck. Runs great, etc. I use this truck to pull my 38' enclosed race trailer. Friday night I fired it up and moved the trailer around the block away from the house so we could light fireworks. It ran fine. Saturday morning went out and it started but died right away. I tried it a few times but could not here the fuel pump running. I cycled the key a few more times throught out the day saturday and sunday morning, still I could not here the fuel pump running. Sunday evening went out and cylced the key, the pump ran, fired it up, drove it around the block and it ran fine. Shut it off and it started but died right away. The fuel pump not running again.

I assume its the fuel pump bad. Is that what it sounds like to you guys? Anything else to check for?

Thanks!

Maybe the pump?? Other things to check or "shotgun":

ECM-B fuse 20a in the Underhood fuse block. (Hot at all times)
Fuel pump relay in the same area as above.
The wiring connections at the tank including the ground connection at the frame or cross member.

If you opt for a new pump make sure to get an AC-Delco that's matched to your VIN.

Yeah, make sure you get OEM pump (if that's the problem), as stated. I replaced fuel pump in my '98 Sily and the shop used two aftermarket pumps, both of which failed quickly. Finally I insisted on OEM pump, and the guy agreed, and now it's perfect..............
