Need opinion on switching to an Elantra

hello: I'm new here but have been around the Chevy Cavalier forum for quite some time. I recently lost my 98 Cavy due to an accident total loss as far as the Insurance company goes. I like the general appointments that the Hyundai Elantras come with. I've noticed some high mileage figures for used ones that I'm looking at ranging from '01 - 06. I need to know if I'd get my money's worth staying with one of these cars for at least the next 5 years or so. Thanks for any opinions, I'll be looking at them more seriously in the coming month to purchase.

I dont think you will be disappointed with the Elantra. They are well built, safe, reliable and economical. Forget what you have heard about Hyundai, those were the old days. Now their quality is on par with all other makes. I have a 2002 GLS automatic with 136,000 miles on it. No major problems in 6 years. Never uses oil, its quiet and came packed with features that I would have had to pay thousands for on any other make. Mileage is 28-30 in the city and 33-35 highway. Everything still works, including the ice cold air.

I have to agree with dmiller on this one. I have an 02 Elantra 5 speed and I love this little car. I average 36-38mpg on the highway consistantly and as for the ride and handling, I have to say it rides better than alot of larger cars I've owned. It handles okay but I would not suggest going too fast on tight curves as it was not built for that. My 02 is loaded with everything I need. I bought it with 76,000 miles on it and I now have 110,000 on it and the only thing I've had to do to it is replace the timing belt because it is suggested at 80,000 miles. Just did it for peace of mind. It is a fun little car to drive and has been very dependable. My advice for you is go for it. Just do a carfax on it before you buy it and have a mechanic check it out first.
