hey yall i have a 2000 cavi and am havin problems with the ac. I turn it on and the motor fan and everything kicks on and the motor bogs like usual but it blows warm air it won't cool off. i checked the refriderant pressure and it was reading 75psi and it shouldn't be over like 25. i believe something is up with the compressor. what do yall think and what would be the cheapest fix. gotta get the air goin gotta 5month old baby and not much money please help me. Thanks Jonathon

Actually, the running pressure can be almost that high on the low side depending upon ambient temperature, heat transfer in the evaporator, and other factors. You really need to connect to both the low and high sides to perform any kind of diagnosis. The DIFFERENTIAL is what is important (for the most part).

Verify whether the compressor is actually running, turn the cabin fan on its lowest speed, and see if the low side pressure drops somewhat. Varying the heat transfer (by changing cabin fan speeds) should create a corresponding, albeit minor, change in low side pressure.

If the pressure remains high, the system may be overcharged, the compressor may be failing, the condenser may be clogging, or the expansion control may have a problem. In your case, I believe that is a simple orifice tube.

Hi,
I have the same problem with my 99 sunfire. Can you tell me where the orfice tube is located?

OT is at condenser outlet connection in front of passenger wheel-- number one failure mode in both cases is loss of refrigerant due to a leak-- most likely leak location is compressor case halves and the compressor shaft seal..both can be fixed..
