Boo Boo Help!?

Hey guys, wow its been awhile! This isnt really cavalier related but I know im with a good batch of guys in here. Anyways last week i was backing out of my buddies farm [at night] and bang. Best friends mom parks her 2007 honda accord right behind my car..? Anyways after freakin out and going to tell her she got a quote a few days later.

The damage consisted of a few silver scuffs from my bumper to hers, and a 1.5-2 inch crack in the bumper. She got a quote for $1060 CND, for a brand new bumper and paint! Is it really neccesary for a new bumper for a crack in the bumper? It didnt chop any fiberglass out it just made a crack.. I swear theres a way for autobody shops to repair a crack without having to replace the whole thing right? I feel like im gettin gouged and Im not liking it.

The closest google picture i found to the damage i did is as follows: P.S. The crack i did, did not have a 45* bend like that one it was just a vertical 2 inch maximum crack.

What do you think guys? Could a shop fix it up and go a good job without having to replace the whole damn thing? Thanks a lot.

I had/have a crack in my front bumper (Not professionally fixed yet, just patched up by yours truely) And when I went to my body shop about it they gave me 2 options, 1 was of course replacing the whole bumper ($700) Or they repaired the damage to my current bumper (Fixing the crack and re doing the paint because of spider cracking- $500) So yes, there is a way to repair cracks obviously.

Also, Isn't car insurance an option?

Im still waiting for the day I hit an animal so I can get a new bumper from my insurance company =) or I find a GM tuner front end for sale...

True, but would the patch job make it look brand new? Would you even be able to notice? It just freaking sucks, i wuda rather plowed the thing and got my moneys worth, but payin a thousand for a little crack.. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Oh btw, they didnt wanna bother thru insurance, the deductible and if my rates would hike it wouldnt be worth it. If i went thru my insurance to pay it wud her insurance have to know at all? I should call and figure out if my rates would hike etc..

There is a product called Fusor. Its like a 2 part epoxy and thats how you fixed damaged plastic ABF bumpers.

But body shops choose the quickest way around things with less prep time and just being able to clean the bumper, light sand, primer, paint and clear is usually what they like to do.

Or they will fusor the bumper, spend and hr sanding and profit a shit load of money.

I agree. It was new before you hit it. It wasn't her fault and she wants it the way it was before you hit it.

I'd ask for a new bumper, too. This is why we pay insurance premiums.

I'm not criticizing you; just offering feedback.
