my 1996 jetta broke down about 4 days ago. I came to a 4 way stop and the engine acted like it wasn't getting fuel and crapped out. I had 3/4 of a tank of gas so it wasn't out. My dad replaced the fuel pump with one from a wrecking yard and put a new fuel filter on. now its getting too much fuel. I hooked it up to a sensor and got the codes p1613 (auxillary inputs auxillary outputs) and p1582 (idle speed controller auxillary inputs) i can't remember the exact wording for the codes but those are correct numbers. Anyone have any ideas on this? its got me and my dad stumped. Please help i need my ride back!

In a google search i found an old thread on this forum talking about error code p1582 being related to the MAF could that be something i need to look into fixing?

As far as the MAF sensor is concerned get some MAF sensor cleaner and clean it. This is just good practice. As far as the error code is concerned, check your wiring harness to your computer. Clean the contacts, you may want to use dielectric grease. The error code indicates either an open circuit or a short going from the computer to the battery + terminal. I'd also make sure that the pump that was installed was the correct pump. VW switched them almost every year for awhile. If your computer doesn't function right, you won't get proper fuel mixtures.
