Need more info to help:

Did this occur suddenly or gradually?

Is there any resistance, as in engine speed reducing, when you let the clutch out?

Can you put the transmission in gear withOUT pushing the clutch?

How many miles? Is it 4wd or 2wd?

Since it happened all at once, check your transfer case....I'd think that it's in neutral.

If the shifter shows it's not in neutral, then check the linkage.

would that make a noise when that happened?

the lady im buying from said it made a hell of a noise, wouldnt shift at all then started what i explained above. i gave 1000 for and hope not having to put in 800 for a clutch.

OK, so you bought the vehicle in this condition. That makes troubleshooting more difficult.

What was the "helluva" noise that it made? Can you get a better description from the lady you bought it from? Was it a grinding, squealing, or what?

So the symptoms you're now describing -- goes into gear without pushing clutch, wouldn't shift at all then became easy to shift, and won't go anywhere -- point to a couple things I can think of:

1) Worst case scenario, transmission damage. "Wouldn't shift at all" falls in this category.

2) Of course, with a bad clutch not letting the trans disengage, you woulnd't be able to shift -- BUT you wouldn't be able to sit there with the engine running, either unless it is in neutral. When parked and in gear, with emergency brake released, can you move the vehicle?

3) Transfer case. It might make a grinding noise if it wasn't fully engaged; have you tried shifting the transfer case yet, and if so, what happened?

:banghead: all i can get from her on the noise is "helluva"
as of now i checked the t-case and it is in gear, so thats not it. like i said, every thing feels good, petal and shift wise. it just goes no where. maybe a safty switch if clutch goes out to prevent further damage. i have drove other cars w/out a clutch before, so im at a loss with this one.

it will move in gear, eng off, brake released.

Bad clutch. Or transmission damage. You might want to take it to a reliable transmission shop.

Ok, try this, jack up the rear end, put the tranny in 1st gear, can you spin the driveshaft by hand or is it locked. Also place the tranny in neutral, can you spin the Dshaft? If everything is working I would look further at the rear diff. but I think your problem will lie in the tranny or the clutch. ALso try this with the engine running, to check if the Dshaft is spinning.
