sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly is that you saying? popping the clutch?
so, the starter turns. ok.
i am not sure what do you mean by popping clutch, sorry
end you can tell that flywheel enages, because all the pullies turn when starter crancks the engine? so that flywheel is ok?

well from that point on you have 3 basic options: no fuel, no spark, bad timing. what you want to do is to start working your basic troubleshooting tree off those 3 roots. check spark, check fuel, check timing. if you have good spark and fuel in the cylinders, then it's timing. or ecm - engine control module, not making it all work well together.

Well obviously your getting spark, fuel and air otherwise when you pop the clutch it wouldn't start. It's most likely going to be a charging or starting issue. If your battery checks out good and your alternator is charging, it has to be the starter. Now does the car crank at all? I would bet that your starter motor is fine, (since you can hear it spinning) but the starter solenoid is done for because its not kicking out the arm to make contact with the flywheel and turn the engine. Since the solenoid and starter motor come all as one, I would recommend replacing the starter. If it does't work you can always take it back, but I'm willing to bet that is your problem.

yea when i try to turn over the key it will not start.. all i hear is the spinning of the starter.. but yes i can pop the clutch for it to start.. i have got new spark plugs in it.. and the fuel is fine.. the flywheel is fine.. but the mechanic at the shop said they tried to put a BRAND NEW starter in it and it still wouldnt start by turning over the key.. and before all that i tried to put in a new starter (only a rebuilt starter from advanced) and it didnt work.. but this car is from a previous owner and it didnt have a starter in it when i bought it..

so do u think it is still the starter??

Are you 100% sure the flywheel has every one of its teeth, and those teeth aren't badly worn? It still has to be a starting issue for it to spin like that and not contact anything. Check and make sure all of the connections at the starter are fine. Just for the hell of it I'd swap starter relays.

Everyone of them I ran into, that did what you described, I replaced the starter and it was fine. Keep in mind just because you get it new from napa or autozone or wherever doesn't mean its guaranteed to work. Don't forget to bench test the starter before installing it.
