Hi, I wondered if anyone else has had any engine problems with the usa lancer.I have 14,000 miles and initially started having a loud rattling sound when the car was first cranked after being off overnight.I took the car back to the mitsu dealer, they said it needed a new set of lifters. After they put in a set of lifters, the engine now rattles so loud, heads turn when driving thru the parking lot while shopping. The car basically went from a cold start problem, to a now full time problem.the dealer said put some miles on the new lifters and it should clear up.I am returning the car to the dealer again tomorrow.Does anyone have any ideas or input? The car has the stock 120 hp factory engine with no mods. The vehicle serves as a family sedan,no racing, rodding etc.I welcome any input. Thanks,

Sounds like lifter tick. They should have primed the lifters before they put them in, but it should settle down once the lifters fall into place.

Between the guys with the 4g93's on Mirage Forums and other Lancer owners, clacking valves seems to be a common problem. Whether or not it will cause problems in function I'm not certain, but you may as well try to just get it fixed under warranty and try to put it behind you. If it's actually causing idle or running problems I'd be interested to hear more about it.

As we speak (?) my OZ is at the dealer with some serious cam and lifter problems with 18K. started as an innocent tick when cold, went to the big scrapheap in the sky a month later. Thank god for 3/36

good thing i got the 7/100k bumper to bumper, if Mitsu is still around by then!!! My 03 has a base 5/60 powertrain and 3/36 bumper to bumper, now extended to 7/100k b-b!!! I just did my first oil change at 1995 miles and started with Castrol Syntec and use Factory filters and use the receipt as proof of oil changes. The dealership's service dept said that was the best way to keep the records of maintenance and sythetic oil was not required but would not void any warranty and to use 10w30 like they use on oil changes at the dealership.

Wow... that's aweful. I have over 30,000km on my ES and I've beat her up quite a bit, no problems yet thankfully! So far it's been as reliable as I'd expect of any Honda or Toyota.
