Looking very nice, I would put some hilborns on my 69 Camaro model(When I get one). But I got a special hood for it ;) What are the plans for colours? You should use the side pipes from your 69 Firebird kit. Also the racing seat and rollcage, would look very nice with all that. Even try the supercharger or minislicks?

I'll make sure to keep you guys updated on this one, as there are no major body modifications!
Lowryda, I scratch build some side pipes for this car using 1/8" tubes, I'll get some pictures.
aznysj, the Celica belongs to my brother, I'll get more pics if he permits.

They still need a little more work. And I still haven't decided on the exact location for it.
*edit* I plan on using the stock seats to keep everything consistent on the interior, but might remove the back seat, and it'll definatly have the roll-cage piece from the firebird, as well as the traction bars.

The body is ready for a nice paintjob! Well, I didn't primer it yet. I'm thinking something basic, red or blue? Any suggestions?

Actually, if you look at the instructions, it says to put it through the inside, but I though it looked funny/wrong, so I tried placing it through the outside.
Anyways, Red it is, with black interior!

Sounds nice, red with black will look great. No stripes? I think that would suit the prostock look you are attempting to give it.

This is the first time this has happen to me!!
Ok, I'm using Tamiya's Gray Primer (I usually use Testors white), and when it dried, I sanded it, so some spots have little to no primer compared to others, so I tell myself "this shouldn't effect the final coat, right?"
Just now, I sprayed my Tamiya Mica Red (didn't know this was metallic either) and the "white" spots clearly appear when I spray the car!
Should I, let the paint dry, and spray another coat next week, or do I need to strip/sand the paint when dry, and start all over? This has gotton me fustrated! So now I turn to you guys for help, since I never came accross this problem before!
Anyways, Happy Modeling! :)

I think you'll have to start all over. :(
I say give it a pretty heavy coat no too heavy but a little heavy.
If those spots still show you obviously have to.
Give it 1 more try before you start all over.
Sorry, to hear that. :(
Metallic colors get darker the more coats you give it right?
My telefonica blue does that.
I think you might have to start over.
Anyways good luck!

The problem was you didn't apply a metallic basecoat before the mica red.

Whoa, never heard of such, this is my first time working with metallics with primer, what would be an example of a metallic basecoat?

I think he means just to paint the body first with a silver type colour, such as TS-30.

Sorry, never experience this before as I am new but if u r not in a rush, I would give it 1 more try of coat before I take drastic measures.
If i am not mistaken, common sense should prevail here.
The spots are light in colour and the coat u r gonna paint over is darker, so it should cover up, correct me if I am wrong. Less there is a chemical reaction then that would be a different thing altogether.

Old thread, so can some one move it to the correct forum?
Anyways, been doing a lot of engine work for the past couple of weeks. The car has a 396 I got off an old Convertible Camaro that was already gutted, but not for the main engine components.
I no longer have the hilborns, but now got a dual carb setup.
I'm trying to do all the wiring and plumming for this one, as it's sort of a big experiment for my engine detailing skills. This is my first time that I'm going to wire up an engine :D!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/208105camaro01.jpg
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/887809camaro02.jpg
I was even crazy enough to drill 9 little holes in the distributor, and placed them on wire looms in the correct firing order.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/352888camaro03.jpg
Also made springs for the carbs.....
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/223328camaro05.jpg
The cars engine also includes scratch-built: pulleys, belt, headers, wired battery, all the little goodies that I can think of. I'm trying to make this engine as detailed as I'm capable of making it in a resonable amount of time.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
Anyways, originally I was keeping the stock hood, since I had the 302 the hilborns fit perfectly in. Then since I moved up to a 396, the block was higher, so I had to cut the hilborns to fit. After this, I did some extensive research on the stock 396 c.i.d. (L89) Chevy motor (because I'm also going to replicate a car my dad once owned with a different model) and figured out that my hilborns were no where near accurate! So I tore it apart, and started working on getting parts for something different. So I then decided to go with 2 carbs with 2 airfilters, but then I changed my mind and decided to just put two carbs. The engine seen now dosen't clear the stock hood right now, but I started on some hood mods which basically is just making the stock cowl higher. A Baldwin-Motion hood gives some extra clearance to the engine allowing everything to fit without touching.
FYI, I'm trying to complete this car for a contest coming up (Augest 10) trying to shoot for the category Detailed. I hope to take the Levin with me too, and maybe even the Supra.... :D Any other modelers from Hawaii going? I made a thread on it before: Pacific Model Car Expo (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=109713) I got no real response in that thread.

As seen in the earlier page, the front is getting some Michelin TRXs and for the rear GoodYear Blue Dragons. The rims look sort of like Crager Super Sports, but if anyone can gurantee some name, that'll help.

I was looking at the Camaro, and was wondering if I should go spoilerless, Baldwin-Motion spoiler, or the RS one. I'm kinda leaning toward spoilerless right now, which is what I'll probably end up with.
Bloodhound
07-18-2003, 04:05 AM
a 70's style lip spoiler would do nicely in my opinion, or moulding a pillarless spoiler(joined at the sides) onto the back would look very modern.
Purpura Delujo
07-18-2003, 07:08 AM
Yeah go spoilerless! If you have to put a spolier on go for the RS type :bigthumb:

07-30-2003, 05:31 AM
The car has under gone a some mods to the body, first off I shaved the trim around the wheel wells, the trim under the door, but I'm going to have to choose the RS rear lights because I drilled the holes in the rear pan when I first started, and didn't realize the difference between the lights. BTW, car is spoiler-less and has a Bladwin-Motion Hood.

beautiful colour, does tamiya make it? what code is it? I might use it on a mustang.....sounds like a real 'parts bin special' to me, using different lights, engines and body combos. should look very neat when finished.

The paint, Insignia Red is made by "Plasti-Kote" which I used in my airbrush. I don't recomend the paint at all, this is the first time where "splotches" of paint came out all over. And the paint dosen't seem to be hardening, although it's touch dry but it feels like you could just peel it off! I hope I can still make the contest, if not I'll have to see what I can make out.
Purpura Delujo
08-02-2003, 09:34 AM
Looks great in that colour. How about a pic with the hood on? I put my models on a 3mm thick piece of ply then whack it on top of an oil heater just after I spray it, it hardens the paint quite well! Try doing soemthing like that, but don't have the heat up much. Slow baking works better for me.

08-02-2003, 04:45 PM
Looking good hono. But, I've never tried doing the baking thing, i usually let my models air dry, that tends to work best for me. Hope your paint comes out good.

Time for an update?
As far as the Plasti-Kote, I never had trouble with that stuff, though it does seem to come out kinda thick. It should rub out very nicely though. The porsche on my webpage was done with Plastikote.

I didn't make the contest since I had no transportation, but the car couldn't have been completed. Since it had some orange-peel and strange "splotches", I sanded the car with 2000 grit, all went well until I sanded to much on some of the corners. The car will be looking at some touch-up paint maybe this weekend or the next.
