2004 GP Spark Plug recomendations

Been a while since my last post, hoping someone can provide some input. I will be changing the plugs on my 04 GP (110,000 kilometers). I purchased the new plugs at Walmart, Champion platnums part # 3013. Question is, the plugs I removed are Irridiums, Delco ITR4a 15's will their be a significant disadvantage if I install the Champion plugs? If so, what will that disadvantage be?

BTW, I notice throughout the forum a consistent trashing of Bosch platnums. I have to say that I have used these in the past in my wife's 97 GTP and in my 93 transport with little or no problems.

Hello, alot of your question is a preference thing...i personally dont like campion plugs in anything!!! i stay with the factory ac/delco motorcraft etc.
never had any luck with camp. but as long as the heat temp is right....... good luck

Why install the Champion 3013? Although cheap in cost you are aware that is a single platinum spark plug meaning it will not have the life of the double platinums or iridiums which are basically 100K mile spark plugs. Also, the ITR4a-15 iridium aka Laser Iridium are OE plugs made for Delco by NGK.

Yes, I went with the platnums mostly because of price, but as mentioned I have been use platnums for years with great success(although Bosch), although this has been in cars/vans with series 1 and 2 3800 engines. I have been able to get 70k to 100K (kilometers) out of the platnums. I am not sure that I would want to leave any plug in longer than that (even irridiums) simply because they seem harder to remove as time passes. The bottom line is, I don't mind changing plugs every 2-3 years, my biggest concern is how a platnum plug will effect things like performance and fuel mileage in a series 3 engine vs. the irridium.

Probably little or no effect. The Series III 3800 will run with NGK and Autolite copper cores so I don't see what the issue is with running single platinums other than longevity.

On the Bosch plug issue single and double platinums work fine. The ones people are having problems with are the gimmicky Bosch +4 multi-electrode type.

I replaced the plugs this morning. (day off for canada day). This was the first time for me on the 2004 and I have to tell you those plug wires were on there pretty good especially on the back side. I seemed to have the best leverage when leaning in from the drivers side and what also seemed to help was the extra grip from the rubber palmed gloves i was wearing. anyhow, job is done. I replaced the air filter at the same time. I ran the Autotap diagnostics tool and can say that there are less misfires reported and when there are any, it is just 1 or 2 reported pretty well evenly accross all cylinders.
