Rear door stuck 98 Contour

The rear passenger door on my 98 Contour will not open. It has electric locks and they seem to be working fine. I removed the interior of the door handle and can see the cable functioning and I can hear it. Also the child safety tab is in the on position, which I cannot access without the door open.
Can I remove the latch (I think it's called a striker, via reading another thread) by pulling down the rear seats and removing the panel giving me access to it? It's getting pretty hot here in AZ and I want to get this fixed before it gets hotter. I am a single mom and my options are figure it out or live with it.
That being said when you reply if you can give me functional terms rather than technical terms, like latch, so I know what you're talking about lol. I am good at fixing stuff, I just don't know the names of the parts. If anyone has any other suggests/ideas please put them out there. I have my dad to help me if needed. Thanks.
