I need a new Grand Prix GT or GXP!

My beloved bright red 1998 Grand Prix GT was totaled on Wednesday night by a person who ran a red light! The entire driver side and frame of my GP GT was bashed in. Thank God no one was seriously injured! The insurance adjuster was nice enough to tell me it was the best 1998 vehicle he's ever seen, excellent condition and dealer ready (except for the driver side being ruined!), making the loss hurt even more. Monday is the last day of the 72-hour 0% financing sale for Pontiac. To get "the deal", I will be rushed into looking for only a couple of hours after work and making a decision. Apparently they don't make bright red anymore (all I can find is a darker red). I want all the features I had before. What model, options, and color do the Grand Prix experts here recommend? I realize it is probably just whatever is in stock now, isn't it the last year for Grand Prix's?

Oh, man! Thats too bad. What is the insurance company giving you for it?

BTW, might want to check out user opinions online and also fuel economy. I remember Bob or Rich saying something about how the newer GTP's dont get very good fuel milage.

Have you considered a used Vehicle? 2003 GP GTP

I did find a 2006 red Grand Prix GXP, black interior, 5.3L 8 cyl., with only 13,000 miles on it at a dealer. The info on their website said it had one owner, and looking at it from the outside and underneath it looks to be in excellent condition. The Carfax quick report shows no problems. I ran a VIN check and it was originally titled in August 2006. The car dealer was closed at the time, so I won't be able to have a test drive until Monday evening after work. They are asking $20,750 for this vehicle. Does this sound like a good deal? http://www.communitypontiac.com/used.php

tblake, I will find out Monday what the insurance is giving me for it. I also know that Pontiac has a 0% financing sale on new GP's that ENDS tomorrow. I saw a new red '08 GP GT on their website that sounds real nice. As far as used cars, I saw the '06 red GP GXP there, and I also saw a pearly white '04 Bonneville there that looks really nice. I want a big-safe-cool-and fun to drive Pontiac. Decisions, decisions....

guitarfish, 9/30/07 I said you are really making me want a 2008 Grand Prix. Well if you read my recent post, my 1998 Grand Prix was totaled on Wednesday evening. I am now out looking at 2008 Grand Prix's. Now that you've had yours for awhile, how do you like it? How does it compare to the other GP's you have owned? Any advice or tips you can give about the 2008's? 0% financing sale ends tomorrow, so I'm in a rush to find one. Thanks.

Deb, I'll respond to your question from the other thread here, since that thread was closed.

I now have 28K miles on my '08 GP. It is the best car I've ever owned. I haven't been back to the dealer with it at all in the 7 months I've had it. It's perfect. Aside from regular maintenance, I replaced the front brake rotors - stock rotors aren't made of the greatest quality metal and usually warp pretty quickly. That aside, I haven't done anything to it except wash, wax, and drive it.

On my previous Prix's, you could program the unlock button to unlock all four doors with one push of a button. On the '08, you need to press it twice. On a day to day basis, this is about the only thing I keep getting annoyed with, and that's a very little thing!

The car moves - heaven knows when I'm not on cruise control, I've looked down and caught myself flying on more than one occasion. No tickets, fortunately!

The remote start is great! So is the premium sound system (6 CD changer/9 speaker Monsoon system). I drive mostly highway, and it's quiet, comfortable, and fun.

If you can swing it with the incentives, I think you'll like it a lot. FWIW, I had a bright red 1998 GP. I used it for 5 years, then my wife took it until we traded it in at 225K. She really misses it - she says guys always used to stare at her...

Hello guitarfish and everyone! Guess what! On Saturday, I purchased a brand new 2008 crimson red Grand Prix GXP, and I am lovin' it!!!!!!!!!!! This new car replaces my beloved and totaled 1998 bright red Grand Prix GT. The insurance is giving me $5700 for my totaled car since it was in "Excellent" condition and "Dealer Ready" prior to the accident. Plus, the insurance is paying some of the sales tax on the new car. The 2008 Grand Prix GXP is the perfect car for me. We test drove several Pontiac models, regular GP's with V6, used GP GXP's with V8, new G8 with V6, new G8 with V8. The minute I got in the 2008 GP GXP, I knew that was the one for me. Oh, and I got 0% financing!!! My only complaint - I wish it was bright red! Now I need to figure out how to update my info on here. Maybe I can get the kids to show me how to attach a picture! Thanks for all your help!

Deb, that is AWESOME !!!! I love that Crimson Red color too!! I've never had a GXP. I have enough trouble keeping the cops off my tail as it is!

Congrats on the new ride. Nothing like that new car smell.....ummmmm....

them new GXP's are sure nice! An older gentleman always rolls by my work with one. Its dark blue and is always really clean. I think either that or a bonneville ssei (do they still make the ssei?) will be my next ride.

BTW, congrats and good choice!
