Diagnosing a brake problem

Well I was putting new brake on yesterday and today. Finished the Job and went to start the car. Pumped the brakes to build pressure in the system. All is well pressure is back in the pedal and then I here a pop. Pedal goes 90 percent of the way to floor. Fuck me. Turned the car off, checked under the hood and look at the master cylnder, fluid everywhere. Looks like all the fluid came out between the master cylinder and the power brake unit. Also the passenger rear SS brake line popped. Fixed that bled the the brakes. Brake pedal is nice and firm again. Turn on the car pedal goes almost to the floor again. And I get a nice sucking sound coming from the problem area.

Any Ideas.

Well the fluid no longer leaks, but does that a make difference? Also what would cause this to happen? Anyway to prevent it?

Sounds to me like the brake line wasn't connected properly or was cross-threaded. When the power assist was working, the pressure built up by the brake booster forced the line off and put a whole bunch of air in the system. I'm guessing you didn't get all the air out of the system since you don't have leaks currently. You may also want to remove the brake line and closely inspect the threads for signs of prior cross-threading. You don't want the line to pop off while panic stopping on the highway.

Was the master cylinder off for any reason recently?

well i know why the line popped. it had been rubbing against the body. and it popped mid line :uhoh:. I hadnt touched the lines before everything popped. Somehow there must been an excessive amount of pressure in the system.
The MC and Brakeline went at the same time.

I all did was pump the breaks to put pressure back into the system. Then pop.

Ahh, okay, the line physically popped. I read the original comment to be that the line popped off, thinking it was the where the threaded fitting attaches to the master cylinder.

I'm just glad this happened in the Driveway and not on the highway.
