its a 2000 intrepid with a 2.7 .. it has 64000 miles on it.. changed the battery 2 days ago(origional from factory was in their).. and its dead again.. had the in car test for the alternator done and it read like 5 volts.. looking at it its not looking easy to change.. any tips would be nice.. also could it be anything else but the alternator.. its moms car and i'd be doing this in the street with basic tools.. any help is greatly appreciated..
i'm looking for tips on how to get it out..can you go through the fenderwell or do i have to take it out from below which looks like removing alot of stuff to get to it..

Disconnect the negative battery cable and hook a multimeter between the cable and battery post to see if you have a drain on the battery. (On these cars you'll want to test at the terminal in the engine compartment rather than the battery in the fenderwell.) Wait a few minutes once you disconnect the battery so electrical shuts down to get correct reading.
For procedure to remove alternator go to the Service manual online that should help you.

something's draing your batt but putting out 5 volts no way that's charging your battery. i'd take it off have it tested again off the car because if not charging off the car..but if it is off the car and it does charge? then you have a broken link. most likely it's probably by the alt.good luck....
