Broken fuel door handle

I accidentally broke the INTERIOR fuel door release handle on my 2002 Altima 3.5 SE with my foot. Does anyone know what is involved in replacing the broken handle? The handle is broken off its base but the cable is still attached so it is functional and opens the fuel door with a careful tug on the handle. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I would just start taking things apart down there until you can get to the base of the handle. Check it out and go from there.
