Ok so, my heater hose comes off the block, goes down to the side of the wheel well, into a metal line and back up into a normal, black rubber hose and into the firewall. The hose is cracking and I dont have the tools to hook it up to the metal line, would it be possible to bypass this metal line and go straight from the block to the firewall, or does that metal line serve a purpose??? PLease let me know, its killin me not to drive this baby!

What "tools" don't you have to hook to the metal pipe? Not real familiar with 4th gens but but on 3rd gens you just remove the rubber hose and crimp on clamp and replace hose and use a regular hose clamp.

There are no hose clamps, its a crimped piece of metal linking the rubber hose and metal pipe. I have no idea, how to uncrimp, or recrimp if at all possible.

everyone has the idea here bro. the hose thats going into the firewall is not really necessary, unless you live up in year-round cold wheather. if is not to much problem for you to do this, this is my OPINION( see how I capitalized the word) ok, follow the hose that come from the motor into the firewall, got it, good. now, instead of going into the firewall, cut it........yes cut it but dont cut it flush up agaist the firewall, you might need the slack if you want to fix it later. then, add, yes add the same diameter hose enough to reach the hose that is crimped to the top (just below the alternator) of the motor. of course you are going to need a couple of those adjustable clamps. And voila, no heater but its driveable.

I think i got what your saying. BUT, does this mean that the metal line it seems to just pass through is what makes the heater work??? What if i connect it from the block to the firewall and bypass the metal line...what would this do?

sorry for the delay, is kinda hard when im not looking at it but yes i think you got it, its actually two hoses that come from the motor in to thew firewall, those two hoses cut them and those two hoses join them together and thats it.:naughty: :smokin:

But why would the heater not work, if all you do is cut out some of the length it has to travel. The heater core is inside the firewall.

GOOD NEWS!!! The metal line section of the heater hose, is to make it look pretty. Went to a couple mechanics before slicing into anything and all said it has no purpose. So i ran a new line from the block to the firewall straight into it. SO FAR SO GOOD. Not overheating, no leaks, woohoo!!!

Actually the metal line is there for a reason (s). It "neatens" up the under-hood area and with a rubber hose you'll have movement and chaffing. just make sure the hose can't move around and you'll be fine.

Well yes, you have a point, but....for cost purposes, forget that metal crap, oh and I have zip-tied the hose in place so it wont bang against anything.
