Hey,
I just got a 2003 saturn vue that has 150,000miles on it from my sister, my dad had it before that, so i am the third to drive the car. The car has never had any mechanical issues prior to this one. I am not a pro at stadards but im good enough. So ive been driving the car for less then a week and i was drving home last night and i go to shift into gear to pull into the driveway and the car wont shift, the stick just goes limp and leaves the car stuck in whichever gear i was last in, which was 3rd gear. When i got the car shifting into 3rd was very difficult and i had to push really hard to get it to go. The stick wont move over to 1st and 2nd or 5th and reverse it just kinda flops back and fourth between 3rd and 4th gear. So needless to say it pretty much makes the car un drivable. The car is sitting in the driveway right now stuck in 3rd gear. I wanted to know if anyone knows what happened or whats going on. Any cheap fixes? Please help with any information or suggestions you have.

hi It sounds like a shift cable let go. they are not cheep. The same thing happened to me and as I'm cheep I made a modification that worked good.
the end or rubber gromet comes off the end of the cable at the shifter
so lift up the shift boot to inspect. If you dont want to spring for a pair of shift cables this is what I did. First remove the little stud that the cable should connect to. this may require some drilling. Then use a bolt and some 3/8 fuel line and a washer to reconnect the shift cable. be shure to lube the shifter also , I use silecone greese. (dielecteric greece)good luck
