I'm not talkin about beating on at the tracks, I'm talking about owning one. What does it take to own a Evo 8 money-wise? I've searched online and seen some go for under 18k and i'm willing to drive a couple thousand to get one with the obvious questions to ask the owner prior to buying one. I'm planning on buying one next year or so but i've heard insurance is up the ass or is it just me? much help needed and thanks! i will post up anything i've missed.

I saw an Evo ONCE at a Mitsubishi dealer here in WI, havn't ever seen one since
as for insurace, it all depends on your age and your driving record. When I first got my Eclipse GS at 17 I was paying $250/m with a decent driving record.
they looked at it as a foreign sports car and charged me up the ass. Of course as I got older (i'm 25 now) I now pay 350 every 6 months, with a near perfect driving record

They are in the top 10 highest cost to insure cars in the U.S. If you are under 25 and male, good luck.

I'm 21 and insurance isn't too bad. I have no tickets, clean record, driving school discount, and good grades discount through Geico. Insurance is about $390 a month. But then again, I'm on my parent's plan still.

:eek2: holy shit that over 4k per year. Mine is like 1.5k/year. I couldn't afford that on top of the car payment. It would be nice though...

DAMN!
I just got everything with my car, title + insurance switch over to my name since I moved out. Paying ~$700 every 6 months which is a lot... used to be ~$500 when on my parents.

It's worth it though. I have a decently paying job, so I make enough.

Me and my dad got in a fight and he threatened to drop me from his insurance... I would've parked my eclipse if he would've done it.
Im 19, but with my dad's excellent driving record my eclipse costs $80 a month. I've never gotten a ticket but have been pulled over 10 mph or more over the speed limit 3 times, I stopped driving like an idiot since then :P

Come to think about it though... I'd rather have my own place then be paying out the ass on insurance on a car. Sure I could afford $390 a month... but it's like, I'd rather just be on my own.
That's why when the Talon goes, it's over. She's going to blow up or get cracked up eventually, so once that happens, the car thing is done with.
But it all matters what you want to do. Some would rather live at home for a long time and have a nice car then drive a decent car and be on your own.

I do rather drive a decent car and own a place, then driving expensive car and live with parent, even you pay for it, still people will think your parent pay for it.
my cousin have 03 Evo when he was 18, and car note plus insurance is over 600+ a month ( his parent moneys ). but if you can afford it, go for it, its a nice car to own. btw i heard people saying wrs sti insu is cheaper then evo cause it more safety:eek7: . I take evo over sti all day.

My school money is already taken care of. I plan on moving out at the end of the year. I have scholarships to pay for tuition, and I have a college fund that has about $25k in it just for use for school, like moving out and paying for an apartment. I do plan on quitting the job I'm at right now when I move out, cause I'll be moving 20 minutes (highway) south of where I am now, and it wouldn't be economical to stay there with gas the way it is now. So, when that time comes, the payments and insurance might get a little iffy lol.

Shit i dont know how rent is in ur guys's area but with rent being so cheap here as soon as i graduate if i end up making the low end ill get an evo and a used Skyline! if i make the higher end but id rather live in a kind of crappy house with a sick car than a nice place and a decent car, but ill never live with my parents again just the way the whole school thing is turning out.
