So say I had a extra Zo6 motor..yes as in vette' Zo6 laying around and a 97' GS eclipse shell laying around and a 92' camaro rear end laying around with 3.73 gears and a set of 4 air bags....would be a hell of a race day..

Thoughts ?

If the motor even fits in the car the tranny will hit every damn thing under the car. You would have to make a tunnel for the tranny and drive shaft. It would prolly be easier just to drop an Evo motor in it. But if you have all the parts and the time it may be worth a shot.

I've seen the LS1 motor in a Miata it will fit in the eclipse with a lot of work, of course.

Anything can be done with enough time... I of all people should know about time. lol

Well I got the motor for free so I can invest a chunk of time & money into labor and materials. We also just purchased a stick welder at my warehouse so I can do most of my own fabbing.I'm just wondering with the 2G unibody being so thin if it would fold under the torque and raw power.

As far as the tranny tunnel goes - I have a crap load of scrap tin metal and aluminum sheeting so I can make that no prob.

Well if for some reason you decide to not go through with the project, then I know somebody who could use a free motor for an old muscle car project. lol...

WOW. I wish you were in northern MN dude, I'd be there to help every single night. I've always wanted to do a rediculous swap like that.

And yes, I have thought of swaps like that, but my idea was to drop an LS1, T56, and maybe a Chevy 10 bolt into my Cavalier, and my most recent one would be to swap the whole 1g AWD drivetrain and suspension systems into my uncles ~75 Honda Civic :D. You would need to cut the firewall and make a tranny/driveshaft tunnel, but I would imagine that would destroy the structural integrity of the car. So then I'd imagine you would just have to weld up a sturdy cage. One thing though, you really need a MIG welder and some good welding skills to be able to make it.

I can weld so-so. I would prefer to do as much mig but we don't have one :P We have a metal shop at the end of our lot who goes through tons of scrap a month to recycle so I can get all the steel I need to reinforce it. I think the LS6 may end up turning that car inside out though :/ So I had another thought - try to find a camaro or firebird frame and shorten it to where I can hide the frame inside the 2G's body lines and just bolt or weld the shell to the frame that way I wouldn't have to worry about a 4K launch and having the car implode with me in it lol.
There are enough junk yards around I am sure I can find something. From what I can tell I am looking at custom motor / trans mounts , custom exhaust , custom wiring , fuel / spark / timing management , custom driveline , custom cooling system custom front & rear suspension & rear axle and I should be just about ready for track if I can go shortened frame route

I have a question. How the FUCK did you manage to get one of those? Oh, and who do I have to kill to get one? ;)

I guess you could always just find a RWD frame with similar dimensions and hang the 2g body on it. But if you do decided to go through with it you really should just spend the ~$300 on a MIG welder dude.

Well I know a few people =) but really I have a buddy who owns a 2 - 15 acre junk yards and he owns me huge for inventorying his cars and parts. I am probably picking up a 98' silver GS from him as well with a shattered windshield - free lol :grinyes:

I don't like to spend my money..I prefer to spend other peoples money so maybe I will just order a MIG and put it on the company account then see what the accountant says about it

I will probably get some measurements this weekend to see just how time consuming and if at all possible , a hidden frame mount will be possible...shitty thing about the 2G is it's like 1/8" sheet metal crap and once I start hacking into it and welding ( shrink / expand ) I think maybe the body lines won't be right...All in all I want it to have a LS6 motor and also retain a factory look -body kit if a must- but have the vicous sound with the stock look and produce enough power to just about dust anything on the road.

Thor - A friend of mine has a 95 cavalier and he is about to swap a chevy 4.3 motor in it. Making it rwd, frame will be reinforced also but should be pretty sweet. It may be a while before it gets done.

Yeah but to use the white 97 shell I parted out that is now sitting in a warehouse or use a silver 98 shell...hmmm...

IIRC, I've seen somewhere where they put a 350 in a 2g, but I haven't been able to find the link for a LONG ass time. I'll keep looking for ya though. All I know is it was badass.

Not sure how old this thread is but I just saw it, not sure if anyone knows about this. But here you go.

Its a FULL 06 vett drivedrain and motor inside of a Hatchback Civic. If he can do it, then you can do it to an Eclipse.

man why cant you people just stick to normal cars....? lol jk ive always wanted to put u fuckin sick evo/eclipse motor into a camaro or mustang like tokyo drift style lol just to piss some muscle head off. But anyway i think if you welded the cage to the shell and not one of those bolted jobs then you should be able to handle the torque right...

Well it's not a practicle thing for me right now since all my work space is full of cars and my warehouse is full of drums of acid lol..Anywho , I sold the motor today and trans so :/ I am picking up a S/C 400 sbc though shortly so I think I may do something a little 'funner' with that and an eclipse shell when I get the openings for it.

The LS6 is a better motor but....the 400 sbc with a supercharger and all the guts to match is better for me =) Plus I may be picking up a 1970' nova roller instead of doing the eclipse - so I have something to smack it into with ease. The LS6 in the eclipse would have been a wiring nightmare from hell and beyond.
