What is the proper procedure for removing the rear speakers from a 1990 convertable? Any suggestions on a mid range price speaker that will fit?

You may have to remove the trim panels to get at the speakers. I know I have to in my Shadow convertible.

Now for a question: Do you have a standard radio or a factory Infinity system. Let me explain why this is important. Standard radios have the output amplifier built into the radio. This amplified output goes to standard speakers. The Infinity radios do not have an output amplifier. The individual speakers have their own amplifiers built in. Most after-market speakers are standard speakers with accept amplified signals. If you replace an Infinity speaker with a standard speaker, you will not hear anything, since the signal is not amplified.

Let us know what you got and we can help you more.

I just replaced the sterio with a Pioneer DEHG4000P. The speakers in the doors are infinaty and the instaler said they were good. He also said the the rears were factory original and shot. He also recomended not replacing them because I wouldn't be able to hear them anyway. The new system is a big improvement over the original factory unit but I really think replacing the rear speakers would make a big differance. I could get better sound from a boom box sitting on the rear seat right now.

Don't listen to the retard who installed it. A proper car audio system has front AND back speakers... sometimes more. Generally, the speakers in the front of a car have more treble, and the ones in the back have more bass. So to get the proper Chrysler concert sound you need all the speakers it has. Then again, to get the proper Chrysler concert sound, you would have kept your factory Infinity sound system >_<

And that guy recommends not replacing them because he would probably have to do it for you and he knows it's a hassle to do, or because he was lazy and didn't connect them. But you will do it anyway. I would recommend going to the local junk yard and pick up a pair of rear Infinity speakers. Or buy new aftermarket ones and install them. You can put your top down and dig your hands in there and you'll be able to access them. Or, put your top down, remove the back seat, and remove both plastic side panels carefully. The speakers are *ON* those panels, so once they're out, you can take the panel with you and work at a table if you want. But you'll still have to chop the plugs off of the wires and crimp on some connectors to plug them into aftermarket speakers. I recommend cutting the plugs off while leaving about 3 inches of wire still on the plugs, and keep the plugs. Just in case you decide to go for the better Chrysler Concert Infinity sound system. :)
