A friend of mine has a 2000 Lincoln LS. The 'plastic' guides on the side of the sunroof are broken so the sliding prongs don't grab the roof to open it. I was thinking about trying to replace the sunroof for her to save money but I'm not too familiar with these cars. Has anybody here replaced a sunroof on these cars?

I had the same problem on my 2002 ls V8. I didnt realize that my roof was an aftermarket roof till it broke but I what I learned about most sunroffs is that the (cheaply made) plastic cable assembly is part of the whole cable/trolley assembly that moves glass back and forth and up and down. When it breaaks the only fix is to replace the complete cable/trolley assembly and therefore in my situation it made more sense to just replace the whole unit. I decided to close mine shut and disconnect the power. What was a sun roof is now a moon roof.
Sorry for the bad news and good luck.

Did you end up trying to fix the sunroof? Mine broke this past weekend. The dealership wants $1600 bucks to fix it - Said the eniter window assmebly needs to be replaced (they dont sell the tracks/brackets seperately. But I found some parts on ebay sold by "The Sunroof Doctor" for $100 bucks
Has anyone ever tried this? It seems kinda scary to take the headliner off. Anybody with any tips?
