The bolt broke that holds the harmonic balancer on my supercharged 232 V6. The balancer is damaged and will need replacement along with the front crankshaft seal. Are these parts for the supercharged engine the same as the standard V6?

A Ford dealer rebuilt this engine at 65K miles. It now has 77K miles on it. I'm guessing he overtorqued the balancer bolt which caused it to break. In any case, please let me know if there is any interchangeablility.

The damper is different and about 2X the cost! Check here for some of the lowest priced For parts I've found on the web: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocator&siteid=213787&chapter=DN2FD0&appSectionid=10&groupid=10012&subgroupid=62097&make=10&model=Thunderbird&year=1989&catalogid=1

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Have you fixed it yet?? The harmonic Balancer on my 93 SC cracked as well which ended up causing some other major damage. My research indicated that the material that Ford manufactured the HBs with could not stand up against the extreme heat of these engines and the heat caused the material to harden like plastic and eventually crack. My mechanic had to get in touch with his Ford supplier and even then, because they no longer manufacture that part, it took them a significant amount of time to find one and it was going to cost over 450.00. The problem was I knew that it really was a defective item I would be purchasing. I read on the Super Coupe Club site that there was an alternative and I contacted a manufacturer out of state that actually makes molds of the harmonic balancer and uses a special material that can withstand the heat without compromising the integrity of the actual balancer. It was only 98.00! If you haven't fixed it yet, I will go back in the records and get the company name for you. My mechanic was impressed the the work.

Heres the place that fixes the balancers

Because they are two piece they usually don't survuve very long after being removed and replaced.
The bolt is a one use only thing as well.
And you might have taken out your crank sensor too.

head over to SCCOA.COM and lok for info on replacing the balancer.
there are also a couple replacement balancers available. BHJ and theres one more. they are over $300 but far superior to the stock ones.

good luck
