I had a problem, Cd changer would not play a CD or eject a cd simply displayed "CD ERROR". I looked everywhere and a few sites wanted money to tell me how to fix it. Here is how i fixed it.
Got the ford radio removal tool and removed the radio. This was a major pain in the ass, but all you need to do is pull hard. I jammed the tools in, and pulled with the hook end of a hammer.
I then unplugged the connector in the back of the radio and reconnected it. POW it ejected the cd that was causing the error.
Works great now.
I know someone else is having or going to have this probelm so i thought i would help.

Thanks for the info SMK,
Good to know.
Where did you buy the removal tool? How much was it? - and would one be able to fabricate one instead of buying?

I got the tool from Advanced auto I think. Pretty cheap if I remember, under ten bucks. I have three fords so it has come in pretty handy.

thanks for this post! I just bought an 02 escape last night and it says CD ERROR as well. I hope when it gets lighter outside I can fix it with that tool it came with in the glovebox. Hopefully it'll be as easy as reconnecting and trying again! Thanks.....will keep all posted, otherwise I'll need to get a new cd player
