No Power to 7-Pin

Hello All.

Getting ready for the camping season, and went to test the 7-pin connector at the rear of the truck. I'm getting turn signals, and brake lights, but no electric trailer brakes.

There is no voltage on the red wire, nor any voltage on the blue wire when the brake is pressed with the brake controller active.

Any ideas? I've checked the fuses, but haven't been able to see any blown ones.

2003 silverado 4.3 reg cab long box.

Do you have a brake controller? If not you need one, and the cable that goes from the controller to the jack on the firewall under a box held on with a single large bolt. It's on the left side straight off your left knee if you were sitting in the driver's seat. And, you need a fuse that goes in the fuse box in the engine compartment.. And, make sure your plug is wired for the trailer correctly...someone might have stitched out two of the wires to pull a horse trailer...their wiring is different then a camper. Unless of course you bought it new then it's probably OK.

yes, the brake controller is installed correctly and the wiring to the panel under the dash is correct as per diagrams as well.

This fuse you're talking about under the hood... what slot does it go into?

On some of the newer controllers, there is no voltage at the truck plug until the trailer is hooked up to complete the circuit thru the brakes. So hook the trailer up, apply full brake voltage thru the controller and you should hear the trailer brakes humming. (hopefully)

Yes...in my 05 it takes a 40 amp fuse but yours might be different. Stud 1 is for AUX POWER for a trailer.
I will say that Chevy for some reason really leaves it's truck owner up in the air about the wiring for a brake controller and fuse location. It would be so easy for them to have a few paragraphs in the manual that would us save time and effort.
