egr valve

I pulled out my egr valve how do you tell if the egr is good or bad I I whent to a junk yard and pulled out 4 and they all look like mine dose any help thanks you

the only way to tell visually is if it has physical damage that you can plainly see. cleaning them up really good and install to see if they work is another way.

I always thought that EGR valve, when the broke.....they broke, so, for you to buying them at a salvage not so wise, maybe on other parts yeah but for stuff like that, just dont buy that extra 12 pack and buy it new. good luck!!:naughty: :smokin:

to test the egr valve, use both thumbs to evenly apply pressure to the bottom of the diaphram moving it up into the "open" position. place your thumb over the tube that connects to the vacuum line. if the egr is functional, placing your thumb over the tube should keep the diaphram in place, if the diaphram moves back into the "closed" position despite your thumb covering the hole, then the diaphram is broken and the egr is useless.

other things to check are the vacuum lines going from the egr solenoid to the egr valve, the egr solenoid itself, and there is also a temperature sensor on the egr itself, screwed into the front, that only allows egr operation once the engine has warmed up.
