This can be simple but...

I don't want to screw it up...How do you pop the window crank on the driver's window? i don't want to break the damn thing. I know there is a clip somewhere but how to get to it...Pictures will be helpful. I have to do something about this stupid window being off track..I hear there is a hole and a bolt that gets wider and you can plug it with a washer to make it hold..i think this is my problem. I popped the panel off no problem but the crank doesn't move and it wouldn't take much to break it.
Thanks

If you have a shop manual it will tell you how to take the window crank handle off so that you don't break anything. If not you're supposed to use a rag or piece of cloth between the crank and the door panel. Then move it back and forth in an upward motion until the clip comes loose, then you can remove the handle without breaking anything. It might take a while to remove the clip as it is small and a pretty tight fit. Best of luck.
Don't forget to post your results as I also have a window off track and would like to know how you went about getting yours done. From reading some of the posts this is a pretty common problem with the window being off.

You use a Window Crank removal tool like the one in this pic. You can get them at Autozone or any auto store etc...
http://www.lockpickshop.com/images/products/LT460.jpg
Your door handle has 2 slots in it, and a "U-Shaped" metal clip that holds it onto the rod of the door regulator. Slide the window tool behind the round plastic washer on the back of window crank handle and apply light pressure on it when it hits the back of the door handle stem. Now slowly turn the window crank handle while holding the tool straight until you feel it fall into the 2 slots that hold the "U-Shaped" window crank clip (See pic below). When it falls into the slots, give the tool a push inward and it will remove the window crank clip from the handle, then you can pull the handle straight off. DONT Loose the clip!!! When you get the handle off, push the wire clip back into the slot on the window crank. When you go to put the handle back on (When your done)....., rool the window all the way up, position the crank handle where you want it to be at full up position, Then Just push the handle back on the crank stem (Dont forget the plastic washer goes on 1st before the crank).

Interesting; i wouldn't have thought that removing something as simple as a window crank could be so delicate and requires special tools... Thank you very much this is very helpful. I will post the results of the repair attempt.
The illustrations are nice too.

Removed the handle no problem with the 4.99$ tool from AutoZone but my window is declared doomed. The problem lies in the right side of the track mechanism where the glass gets inserted. It's screwed in the top and bottom to the metal door frame but it's bent and allows for axial movement of the window as it travels up making it come off track right before you hit the top. It looks like it's only salvagable by drilling a new hole in the metal clip where it screws to the door frame but that is useless because i won't be able to screw it in because there is no tapping surface for the new screw on the metal clip. It's a headache especially with no A/C. They have window tracks on Ebay for 24.99$. i might pick me one
