To those of you living in Florida (I believe Mike and evildragon, and whoever else may live in Florida)... I'm going to be heading down there for a little over a week. I'll be there from the afternoon of Saturday, June 28th through Monday, July 7th in the morning. I'll be staying in Deltona (I believe it's somewhat near Orlando) for the majority of the time, I was just wondering if any of you guys knew of any junk yards around there. Lol, I'm one of the few people who would love to spend thier vacation out of state junkyard hopping. But yeah, anyway I figured while I was down there, I'd see what they had... since salt isn't used for any road purpose as far as I know, I can't imagine the cars to be too rusty. Last time I was there I don't think I remember seeing hardly any rust on vehicles, new or old. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

hmm i dont know of any around that way, i live more south of there (about an hour north of miami to be exact) i know of three good ones around here though. but yeah i never see any rust on most cars here, and if i do they were cars that were most likely up in the snow. let me know if you come down this way at some point of being here.

I'll have my laptop, but might not neccesaraly have internet access while down there. Whats the name of the town you live in? I can compare the distance via MapQuest. I'd be willing to drive up to an hour or so just to find a yard.

Hm, that'd still be like a three hour drive. If I head out that way I'll check it out though. From Google's sattelite image that looks like a pretty big yard. Does it span across McAllister Way, or is it on just that one side?

actually it looks like that might be another junkyard right next to it, im looking at the sattelite image too, i never went past the first place

Here's another option I thought of that might be of help. If I were in your situation, I would look online at www.car-part.com . I would enter my vehicle's info in their search boxes and select a part I was looking for. I would then limit the search to parts of Florida I was planning on visiting. A results page would then come up and I could copy or print that info as a starting point to go an possibly visit some of these yards to see what they had available. The results page usually lists the name and contact info for the yards that have the parts you need, and a little work on the phones before you go down there might narrow your search further. By contacting some of these yards before you head out, you can see if they're open to the general public, if they have more parts in stock for your vehicle and can help "weed out " those yards which may not have anything useful, thus saving you on gas also. Good luck.
( You think like I used to.. okay still do :grinyes:. Back many years ago , my friend and I were planning on going to Florida for a week, and part of the time we wanted to check out some of the "Southern junkyards" to see what they had since the ones up here in NY have little in rust free parts. Something about walking around a salvage yard... it's like going on a treasure hunt. :lol:Unfortunately, we never did make it down there :shakehead )

Yeah, it's rare to find rust free parts up here in NY. Thats why I'm hoping to find something good to take back with me. I'm not looking for anything in particular, just like you said... a treasure hunt.

I think I may be going in the fall, but I'm not 100% on that one. I do have Family in AZ. I'd love to go there sometime... hot, but with low humidity.

Don't be one of those that says "But it's a dry heat" ... haha ... it's still hotter than hell here. Plus, humidity hits 90% and better during July into September.

Hey hey hey, I'm just going by what I've heard. No doubt it gets hot as hell, especially when you look at the geographical location.

Hell, PeteA216 and I are used to high humidity :grinyes: ( living only about an hour to hour and a half away from each other.) In the summer it's very common to get temps in the 90s with up to 95%+ humidity and the dew points in the 70s which is sub tropical. Bring it on:lol:!

I've been to vegas during the summer of 2006 so i know what desert heat is all about, that and ive been to michigan in the middle of winter in -6 weather. so this florida heat isnt that bad, just the massive humidity gets to you.

Okay, took me a few days to find a wireless signal for the lappy. I don't have much of a signal though. From what it seems, there isn't much for junk yards anywhere within a reasonable driving distance from where I'm staying. Figures. Oh well... as for gas prices, around here in Deltona I've been paying about 3.89... the cheapest during the drive down here was 3.79 in South Carolina.

$4.079/gal here in Mesa, AZ for 87, I use 89 in my car which is $4.179/gal.

I miss using 93 oc. but then again i never really noticed a difference, except when i had my pontiac with the supercharger it specified to use only 93 oc.

PeteA216
07-03-2008, 11:57 PM
The only thing I buy anything other than 87 octane for is my truck. I have to run 93 in that because something that nobody can seem to figure out is wrong with it and pings horribly on anything other than 93. $4.499 per gallon baby!
