Hello all, or should I say Silicon. lol
Here is what I am really trying to do, at this time I see no reason to swap to the 350, but I would like to make all the mods from the 9C1 package possible to get the most from my 305 civie model... for instance the 9C1 has a heavy duty perimeter frame, and i will be installing custom sub frame connectors to essentially do the same thing.
OK so I read the .pdf from the 9C1 page here... http://www.9c1.com/ Particularly what the 9C1 package includes over the stock...
Now then, about the transmission, I read "Special Calibrated Trans" & "Trans low gear lock out"
I am assuming the lock out is a manual feature so when you slam the shifter down, it will not go all the way to low? Is that right?
And about the "Special Calibrated", I assumed that was done by a ECM or ECU or some kind of computer device, is that not the case? Is it a physical midification or a gearing mod they changed?
What is different in regards to the trans?

OK. Well since no one else seems willing to step in here.... I don't know where to start with what is wrong with this post. So let's start with the frame and sub-frame connectors.
Sub-frame connectors on a full-perimeter framed car? I'd like to see these. The only difference between your frame and a 9C1 is something like 1/32 of an inch, probably less, of steel. You already have a full framed car. There are no subframes to connect. If someone is trying to sell you these run from them and send me all of the money you were going to give them.
Low gear lock out is a piece of metal that mounts to the outside bottom of the transmission pan using several of the bolts that keeps the driver from slamming the car into first gear. Not really that whoopy of a deal. Pretty worthless for the average driver. But it kept idiot cops from blowing transmissions and engines along the way...
The specially calibrated transmission. I suspect this is actually nothing except some heavier bands in the transmission. A good rebuild with a shift kit and a corvette servo will be a better modification.

The 'specially calibrated transmission' is nothing more than tuning to allow near full throttle operation in 4th gear, to get more speed from the car. That and some simple shift calibration that any good trans tech would perform anyway. One thing I like to do to all of these transmissions (700R4/4L60) is remove the spring behind the Modulated TV valve - just throw the spring away and put the spool back without it - this solves a 3-4 hunting problem these transmissions sometimes have.
The 'specially calibrated speedometer' or 'calibration certified' speedometer is one that is completely sealed and cannot be calibrated as other speedo heads can. This applies to mechanical speedo heads - The '91-up uses a magnetic reluctor and pickup instead of speedometer gears in the transmission, and is configured in the ECM. Basically it means that if you follow the proper tire size recommendations, the speedometer is a little more accurate than otherwise.
If your '91 is an LTZ model, you already have this stuff anyway as the LTZ was basically a 9C1 car with standard hoses and a 305 - no option for the 350 until 1993.

Thanks for the comments...
1) The sub frame connectors, no body is trying to sell me any. lol I just assumed it was a unibody car, and when I saw the 9C1 has a stronger frame, I assumed it likely was just sub frame connectors. Thank you for clearing that up, and I will remove this from my list of todo's. lol
The speedometer does not matter to me, although 80 top is sorta silly, I wish it went to 110.
I wont worry about the low lockout, I am smarter then that. lol
I will keep in mind your comments about the trans when a rebuild is required, it seems good now. But maybe with a rebuild I will have a kit and the Vette servo installed, and what ever else I lean about between now and then.
So just to be clear, there are no electronics used with this trans in regards to operation?

Also I am a bit confused, how would you read what model I have exactly...
Here is my Vin...
1G1BN53E7MR
I read it as follows...
1 =USA
G =GM
1 =Chevy
BN =Caprice/LTZ sedan
5 =4 Door
3 =Belts w/ Pass airbag
E =L03 (305/5.0L) 170/255
7 =N/A
M =1991
R =Arlington, TX
Specifically, how would you read the BN from the list, how do I know if it is a standard Caprice Classic, or LTZ? I have Caprice Classic all over the car, but no LTZ, if that was something labled (badged) on the car itself.
Here is the snipit from this site... http://www.theherd.com/articles/gmvin.html
1991:
BL = Caprice Sedan/Wagon
BN = Caprice Classic/Caprice Classic LTZ Sedan
BR = Roadmaster Estate Wagon
BP = Custom Cruiser Wagon
BB = Coachbuilder (Limo/Hearse) Wagon
