hi there
i opened my engine cover because i heard a strange sound and i found the chain shoe broken into two pieces i picked up one piece and the other piece falled down in the oil sump
then i found the engine unstable
is there a problem if i left this piece in the oil sump
pls advice me if any action need to be taken

What vehicle are you referring to here? This almost sounds like a 4.9L Ford I6.
Depending on the size of the pieces and if it's wedged it could be a serious issue or you might be able to get some miles out of it, but certainly not a good idea to keep running the engine this way. The piece could get bounced against the crankshaft scoring it or breaking up further. The smaller pieces could plug the oil pump pickup screen and restrict oil pressure and flow to the critical engine parts.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Chain shoe." Is this a wear block used to tension the chain?

I was going to guess nissan 2.4L
