I have a 1997 4.0 sohc that is blown. I was wondering what years would swap out and just plug and play. any information would be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance.

Seems like that may be a good question for your local dealership, although few people will probably want to be responsible for saying, "Yeah, that one will work" unless you're looking at one from the same model year and same engine code.
Are you just looking for a short block, or the long block? Short block will probably be pretty easy to find options. For a long block, it's hard to say what electronics are different between them. My guess would be that the 1996-2001 would be pretty similar, but I also expect some connections and locations will probably be different between those years for a long block.

thank you for you reply. i guess i have the short block in there now so i would be looking for a short block. i wasnt to sure if there was anything that would have to be swapped out(i.e.,fuel rail, exhast manifold, etc). now i will enquire at my local dealer. once again thank you.

Call up your nearest auto salvage yard too. They should have an interchange book called a hollander. The yard might want the 8th vin off the vehicle.A short block is not the way to go,costs more and Jasper knows about this.It is cheaper to put on the oil pan, timing cover, cylinder heads at the factory where a reman is done.
