left side turn signal not flashing, right side is flashing. changed all bulbs on left side and checked and cleaned ground on front and rear. Left side still not flashing. What Next?:shakehead

I was afraid of that. I don't have decent schematics for your model year. What I can tell you is I believe the insanity of advanced electronics hadn't hit the 89s yet. You have a dedicated turn signal flasher and no BCM. Makes life much simpler. Since your right side lights are flashing your flasher is good. I would suspect the turn signal switch or it's wiring harness in the steering column. You'll have to remove the covers and investigate. If you have airbags don't forget to disable them by disconnecting the battery and waiting 2-3 minutes before working the problem. You'll have a much nicer day.
Here's a link that talks to the wiper switch. It will get you in the neighborhood at least. Why the turn sig switch isn't there is anybody's guess. Or maybe this is a multifunction switch.
