962C help - decal disaster

Hi all

Well after messing up my clear coat I managed to wreck the progress on my Revell Porsche 962C, so I'm back to a sanded down bodyshell and no decals

:(

Problem is I can't find any decals anywhere for a short tailed (is that the right term?) 962 in the Rothmans livery, having said that I'd be interested in other liveries provided they suit the Revell 962 boxing

Can anyone suggest a source or any ideas ? :confused:

You can always ask Revell for a replacement sheet. They are normally quite good for that sort of service.

Yeah I thought that too, but I've emailed them 3 times and had no reply :(

I phoned Revell UK who ordered a decal sheet up for me, very helpful and freindly.

Now i just need to find some Rothmans logos to replace the markings on the sheet and I'm away :D

Sorry to hear, I hope you can get hooked up. Don't sand the body, you may risk losing small details off the body, try oven cleaner or brake fluid. Brake fluid works best. Just put the shell in a small dish, or double bag it in clear food storage bags and let it "marinate" for a few hours. The paint with scrub right off.

better yet, use 90% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) - it won't damage your plastics, even clear ones after soaking in weeks (yes, by experience).

Fresh paint (24 hours or less) will come off with a bit of scrubbing within half an hour.
Longest it will take is (at least so far I've used it) is around a week. That's with a model made around 5 or so years ago with a lacquer paint job.
Will also leave most types of puttys intact.

I have some windows off of a Fiat 500F that have been sitting in my alcohol for nearly a year... no changes in the plastic so far.

Brake fluid is extremely fast, BUT it will eat at the plastic somewhat, making it brittle and/or 'smoking' clear parts.

Thanks for the pointers peeps, to be honest I'd already sanded the bad paintjob off - I havent lost any detail other than the door hinges which I intend to re-create with some plastic card, I've rescribed all the panel lines and I can honestly say the bodyshell is now comparable to the first time I primered it, I'm pleased :)

Revell are despatching a new decal sheet to me, and http://www.modelworks.co.uk/ are sending me some Rothmans logos , including a 1:43 set to use on my Resin driver figure
