I have a 97 Grand Prix GT with 98k. I am getting about 18 mpg driving to and from work which is only 3 miles away. Is this mpg normal?

well...is this highway, or city? in short...yes, it is normal. with only a 3 mile drive the car doesnt even get a chance to get to normal operating temp before you are shutting the car off.
not only does this kill your gas mileage, but it is horrible for your car too.
for the 3 miles, w/ gas prices...why dont you just walk to work
another thought...are you going by your own calculations, or is that what the DIC says? cuz the DIC is hardly ever right.

City is getting about 16-18 mpg while highway is 25 mpg according to the DIC.

idk, i mean 18 seems about right for city. i know my 99 GT coupe gets about 18-20 city driving. i average 32-34 MPG highway though. idk, all the little things make a big difference IE tire pressure, if you have subs/access weight in the trunk. things such as that...
but yeah...walk to work, haha. i live 2.8 miles away from work and i walk/take a bike to work everyday. i started doing this about 6 months ago. believe it or not...its saved me apx. $80.00/month

I wish I only lived three miles from work. Closest I have been in the last 38 years was 23, but the last twenty have been between 48 and 72.
I get 25-29 hand figured on my '97 but do few short trips. If I lived three miles away even 5 mpg would work for me. I sure wouldn't sweat 18.

I normally get about 19-21 mpg for city driving on my '99 GP GT. Highway driving nets about 26 mpg. What you're getting seems normal to me.

I'd agree that it seems normal for what you described. If you only lived 3 miles from work, ride your bike! Cheaper and good for you! ;)
