ac switch cuts off sporadically

this cuts off on the highest setting #5. it works on all the other settings. then I can switch it back from 4 to 5 and the #5 fan setting will work.

would this be a switch problem or a resistor on the blower motor?

Wow! I was just about to post the exact same thing. I have a 2002 venture and I've been having this problem for the last 2 years. I just took it in for service before the warranty expires. The following repair was done per my invoice but it has not solved the problem.

replaced blower resistor, replaced HVAC control module and spliced in new HVAC control module connector.

I'm still having this problem whether it is heat or a/c. I'll let you know what happens next when I take it in.


I just left a message for the dealership yesterday.

should be the resistor bad. but have seen bad spot on switch .try resistor first as it easier to get to.

how do you change out the resistor on the blower motor?

is this something I can do from the inside of my vehicle without tearing the dash apart?

Under dash above passenger footwell- remove hush panel- then notice purple and black wire that leads to blower motor- the other end attaches to infamous resistor assembly- remove two (sometimes 3) 5.5mm screws to pull out resistor- after you disconnect the wiring harness....
