Everyone knows this band, but are most of you aware they even existed in the early 90's? Again, since there's only 1 thread being updated here anymore, i'm gonna talk about some music. Some metal again, from Gothenburg.

I'm not a huge fan of the music that In Flames is putting out for the past 3 or so albums, however that's not to talk them down in any way. These guys are group of extremely talented, well rounded musicians.
Lets talk about one of their early releases, their 2nd effort to be exact: "Subterranean" EP. This EP was released before the band had even settled on a vocalist; this vocalist will only appear on this EP, and their first album had the current vocalist of another melodic-death metal band Dark Tranquillity. The sound of this EP is very raw, very catchy riffs, intricate acoustic passages, and 2 great covers; Metallica and Iron Maiden. I really do stress raw, especially compared to how much depth the band has put into the music once they got the ball rolling. Some killer tracks are "Stand Ablaze" (which its outro is my ringtone), "Everdying", "Timeless", and "Biosphere". If don't know much about this band, but have liked what you've heard, definitely go back to their roots and check out their early work.

In Flames We Trust

At least up thru Tokyo Showdown. With the exception of Come Clarity, I haven't been too impressed by the last few albums. They all had their strong points, but the newest album brings the meh. Come Clarity was pretty good, but other than that, In Flames is nowhere near as awesome as they used to be.

I'm not too crazy for anything past "Clayman"/"Tokyo Showdown", but tbh, doesn't mean they're not just as awsome. It really appeals to a different crowd. A lot of In Flames fans that became fans with albums like "Come Clarity" and "Soundtrack to your Escape" don't really get into albums like "Lunar Strain" or "Jester Race". Albums in between like "Colony" and "Whoracle" are probably their best hybrids of the 2 directions they have taken.

All in all, like i said, they are simply very talented, well-rounded musicians, and their latest efforts don't change that. I simply don't get into them anymore, (especially their newest release, i gave it 1 good listen and havn't picked it up again). I guess, look at the 2 directions Metallica took. Thrash and Hard Rock. I'm a big fan of "Kill 'em All", "Justice", and "Lightning", but not so much "Black". The kid who introduced me to Metallica was ALL about "Black", but he was a big Pearl Jam, Nickleback, Staind fan, who looked at songs like "Seek and Destroy" from their first album and said it was crap. Bands tend to suck when they don't play the music you like.
