Hello, hope everyone is doing well. I just purchased a 2000 Monte Carlo with a 3400 engine (74,000 miles). I need to know if any of you have had the following problems and if so, how did you solve them. My sunroof isn't working at all. It does not open when i press the power switch. Could this be a bad switch, wires, fuse, motor or what? How do i determine if a switch or motor is bad and how do i remove it. The switch is attached to the upholstery. Do i just get a flat head screwdriver and pop it off or what. Next problem is, i found out today the dang thing is leaking water on the passenger side. Thank GOD for the rain, otherwise, i wouldn't have even known it had a leak. It didn't leak when i washed it; Took it back to dealer with an attitude to get on their behind and they claim that they wasn't aware of the leaking problem when they sold me the thang. Yeah right! I asked them if they could fix it (operational problem, didn't know it was leaking at time of purchase) prior to me purchasing it and they said sure but it will cost you a $1000 in addition to the price of the car. I don't think so. They told me that the leaking problem could be due to the drain tubes being clogged up with dirt or debris. I noticed also while driving down the highway at 60 mph plus, i could hear air on the passenger side of the sunroof. Is this so and if so, how do i determine if they are clogged? Could it be a crack seal if not a clogged drain tubes? The dealer say they can't get to it until the end of next week. I will attempt to fix it myself if any of you can assist me. I would definitel appreciate it. I really hate to wait until next week for i need the thang so i can drive it to work. Had to park it in the garage tonight due to rainy weather. Didn't want to wake up and find seat/carpet soaked with water for that would be another headache. Please let me know if any of you have had a similar problem with your monte carlo. Also would like to know if this problem is normal. Look forward to hearing from anyone who has experience these problems with their sunroof. Apologize for the long message, just very aggravated right now due to not being sure i made a wise investment. Thanks

I understand your irritability. You have every reason. Been there with my Montes, believe me. I have a sunroof in my Z34 that the dealer undid the button so I couldnt use it if I wanted to and I hear air coming through mine also on the pass. side and wondered how it doesn't leak, but no leaks so far (fingers crossed). I haven't really had time to mess with the sunroof due to the more important things that have gone wrong with my Monte but eventually I will get there. Let me know if you figure out what the problem is, if you don't mind. :)

:smooch: Thanks for responding! I ended up taking my Monte back to the dealership. They agreed to fix the water leak but that is all they fixed somehow. They claim the cable on the passenger side of sunroof is broke. I'm not sure what they did to stop the water leak, that is, if it's really fixed. I really hadn't driven the vehicle in a heavy rain storm, only light rain; I didn't noticed any leaks. They say that they ran it through the car wash three times to make sure it didn't leak. To tell you the truth, i don't know what they did to it. All i know is that the sunroof still doesn't work via the power switch. I just decided that one day i will just take it to a sunroof shop. High gas prices in my area has made me put many things on delay:)). I will let you know what the specific problem was once i decide to get the sunroof taken care of, that is, if the price is reasonable; Otherwise, i will just keep driving it. These days, you just never know what you getting yourself into when buying a used vehicle. I suppose the best thing to do is just buy yourself a brand new one if you can afford. Course, sometimes they have problems as well. Have a good one!
