'97 Taurus 3.0 GL 157k: Oil Pan Removal

Noticed recently during an oil change that the pan was wet with oil on the exterior and that this oil was being smeared backward onto the exhaust pipe, transmission pan, and even the cat (presumably as the car is being driven, as there are never any oil spots on the ground).

So- I think it's coming from the oil pan, which means the exhaust has to come down to change the gasket, right?

The exhaust is all original and has never been removed.

A few questions:

1.) Can I do this job myself underneath the car with the car up on ramps?

2.) What's the likelihood that the exhaust bolts will break as I try to remove them? They actually look pretty good - not corroded like I expected. If they break, what would I have to do then?

3.) Any shortcuts to doing this job? Any related repairs that should be done at the same time?

Probably going to be tough with the car on ramps! I am sure it would be far easier if you could get the car up in the air. Everything is easier when you have more room. Also, on a 97, I would say there is a pretty good chance the bolts will break! That's 11 yrs. of winter, rain, debris, and heat! I would put some PB Blaster on there and wait a few minutes before trying to get them off.

I like using penetrating spray overnight if I have that luxury. If they still don't budge, try a propane torch on it. That often does it. I'm surprised how many here have said they have come off easily. Use anti-seize on it when you put it back together. Exhaust clamps more than a year old never unscrew. I always just twist them off with a breaker bar.
