96 Taurus airbag code 24

My airbag light blinks code 24 ... it does this 5 times then stays on.
Is there a quick fix for this? Can the light just be reset? I just bought the
car and it has slight minor paint transfer on the extreme left of the front
bumper - but this doesn't look like enough to have deployed the airbag.
I've seen posts about code 23 and code 25 ... what is code 24?

Thanks in advance ...

'Open Circuit' sounds like a loose plug or something ...
'Low Resistance' sounds like a frayed or worn wire ...

Can I fix this? Or will a mechanic try to rape me for a labor charge?

According to the factory service manual, a Lamp Fault Code (LFC) of 24 indicates Internal microprocessor fault (retrieved only during on-demand self test) or System disarm failure or internal diagnostic monitor fault. To determine which, you'll need a professional scan tool with the SRS software to read the associated body computer code.

Where exactly is this sensor? I'd like to try replacing it
myself before going to the dealer with a blinking sign over my
head that says "take my money" :frown:

It doesn't sounds like it's really easy to get to. It appears to be mounted in a set of brackets, held in place with two screws, positioned above the AC Evaporator Core housing.

Below are the removal steps according to the factory service manual:
WARNING:
THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

1. Record pre-set radio frequencies for reprogramming following completion of service procedures.

2. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to «Section 14-01».

3. Wait one minute for back-up power supply energy to be depleted.

4. Move door lock relays and remote anti-theft personality module (if equipped) to improve access to air bag diagnostic monitor (14B056).

5. Disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor electrical wiring connectors.

6. Remove two screws retaining air bag diagnostic monitor to the air bag monitor bracket (14B058).

7. Note: Screw is part of the air bag diagnostic monitor and cannot be removed.

Loosen screw until disengaged from air bag monitor bracket and remove air bag diagnostic monitor from vehicle.
