ok, so i have a 97 firebird. a v6. sometimes when im at a stoplight, waitin for it to turn green, the car turns off. and it gets harder and harder to turn back on, each time it turns off. once i was in the freeway, and it turned off, luckily i was on the slow lane, so i put the car in neutral and went to the side. does anyone have an idea what may be wrong? your awnsers will be greatly appreciated. thanks. by the way, its an auto.

First thing to do is get it scanned for codes.

Hey i'm experiencing the same problem! I had the problem about a month ago and took it in the shop where they said that the ground from the computer was terrible so they reground it and i never had the problem again. However it seems to be finding its way back b/c it died on me again while on and on-ramp :uhoh: i pulled it over and tried to start it ... SOL ... but after about 10 mins i tried it and it fired right up??? Happened again when i was leaving my house... started it up .. began to move ... and it dies ... i had to wait a while b4 it started again. I'm also having a hesitation problem with the engine around 1.3-1.6k rpms ... say if i rev it up to 2k, when the needle falls back down it "jumps" when it crosses about 1.5k, and then continues down..... i understand this is probably a pretty vague question but i was looking for some guidance... and it trips no CEL btw. Also this hesitation only occurs until the engine gets warmed up with about 5-10 mins of driving. After this the problem no longer exists. Have replaced 02 sensors, as i was told that was the problem by a local mechanic ... however that did nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated

could possibly be your tps sensor

Had my friend look at it the other day and hes thinkin its a vacuum problem... either the vacuum hose, the MAP sensor, or *hopefully not* a bad intake manifold gasket :uhoh:

so i took my car to the mechanic. and he told me that the reason it turned off was because of some lillte black box thingy he showed me. i forgot what it was called. yea im pretty stuipid when it comes to cars:eek7: so he changed that and it hasnt turned of since. its almost been a month. he also told me that he had to erase a code in order for it to work. or somethin like that. then about the car not startin he said that there was no communication with the computer and the pistons or something, i dont member the only thing i know is that it was a bit expensive to fix. almost 500, well for me its expensive but for all u rich white guys, its pocket change. n so far everythin is workin right.

Why's it gotta be "white guys"? Let go of the hatred. And if you want to have some money...learn more about your cars. When my car came out from under warranty in 1986, no mechanic other than me ever touched it. They charge $100/hr and I ain't going to pay someone that kind of money for something I can do myself.
