i own a 2001 ford focus se,low milealage, never any tranny issues good on fluids. recently the vehicle had a problem with the boot on the ambushing, the cover had come off and had been exposed cleaned it up and had reloobed it up and worked just fine.however the now the car will not go in reverse, push the gas as far as it will go and will not go past 2000 rpms and the car will not go in reverse,if you put the vehicle in nuetral you can push it forward its tough but you can,but you the wheels lock up and wont allow you to push it in reverse.if you rev up the engine and slam it into reverse the car jumps backwards and comes ot a stop and the previouse symptoms apply.if you put the car in drive the and give it gas,the vehicle takes off as in second climbs to the right rpms and drives as if its perfectly fine......could this be a transmission issue? or could it possibly be something in the ambushin and boot again.im desperate cant figure this out and need the vehicle asap to take a trip of 200 miles for my mothers surgery. please help thank you.

Welcome to Automotive Forums. Sounds like the CV joint has competely gone out. If the boot had been leaking for any period of time the grease probably leaked out and had become contaminated. Am not sure about the problem with the engine speed. If you have an auto tranny the problem could well be the transmission. I would take it to a reputable transmission shop and have the problem diagnosed. I wouldn't take it on a long trip. Have you checked the level of the fluid? Rather than having just one problem you may have 2 or more things happening at the same time. Again. Take it to the shop. Chances are they have seen this before and will be able to help you out.
