I have a 1998 lincoln town car (http://www.lincolnforums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3990#) with an ac problem. The ac system is fully charged BUT the damper door is stuck on heat. I have been told that I have to remove the dashboard to remedy this problem. My question to pose in here is there has to be a way I can rig the damper door to stay open for ac without going through a major pain. Can someone in here please help me remedy this problem so I can have AC again? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

The "Blend Door" that your referring to is inside the plenum with only the pivot shaft protruding from the outside of the plenum. Where this 'shaft' protrudes, a blend control device that moves the door is attached... that's the Blend Door Actuator.
The actuator is the part that breaks internally and looses it ability to move the blend door, thus the door goes wherever it feels like.. most folks find that the door actually flops around, making a banging sound.
Here's a webpage where a guy repairs one (actuator):

(thanks LOD2)
There's lots of Google talk about this too:

LincolnsOnline runs a good repair section too:
