Help - Eng identification, crank pos sensor

I bought a 97 Metro 1.0L. After installing a new clutch kit, flywheel etc I decided to start getting the motor all fixed-up ie tune-up new belts etc. The check engine light was on so I ran a diagnostics and found the code for the "crank position sensor" being new to the car and not knowing the history I cleared the codes and imediately the crank position sensor code came up again. I figured ok lets look at replacing. When I went to look for the sensor it is not there. Obviously I dont have a 97 engine in the car. The crank has 5 bolts so I am assuming it is a 93 or newer.
The engine ID stamped on the side is G10-425752, then above is stamped 993 CM3.

I believe I found the wire which is suppose to go the crank position sensor as whoever replaced the motor just ran it to the top of the firewall and secured it up there.

What would be needed to get my engine modified to accept a crank position sensor so I can get that check engine light off.
Or could I get say a 95 ECU and use it. Will the wiring harness for my 97 plug into a 95 or earlier ECU. I am assuming I still have the 97 ECU since it is kicking out the code for the crank position sensor.

The car is running good and on my first 250 mile trip got 46+ mpg. That is with low cylinder compression 145psi 2 cyl 135 on the third.
Also the speedo seems to be off a little at 60 I believe the speed is closer to 68. Possibly a different trans no calibrated with the speedo??????????????

Sounds as if someone put in a 93 or 94 engine and trans. The speedometer drive is calibrated for the 12" tires the donor car wore.

The engine can be converted to take a crankshaft sensor by changing the oil pump. Might need an oil pan too, not sure. I did read somewhere that a guy simply connected his crankshaft sensor to the cam sensor and it fooled the PCU into turning off the light. I know that's really vague but it's all I've got.

If you have one of the earlier 1.0 engines the position sensor is in the distributor. or part of it. I kep getting the code along with the o2 sensor code changed the o2 sensor and I have not had the problem again.
