All I've got to say is... man... the L76 6.0L V8 is pretty nice. Rated at 361hp, 385tq. Although it moves this 4000lb (I know, yikes!) car around with ease. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't make more. Hmm, maybe a dyno run is needed? :D
She's obviously a GT model with Premium and Sport package. Which means it's got all the options you could think of. Which, admittedly for a Pontiac... is pretty nice.

Sweet. I have been contemplating getting one of these for myself. Glad to see that pontiac saw fit to go with the minivan steering wheel. How is the sportshift in that thing? crisp or slow?

The best part about it is the e-brake handle...Heh.
I demand a race in July! And possibly a test drive ;)

That little button is on the end of the ebrake handle? That would make it feel like you were ripping the center console out every time you pulled it. Have you driven any high end euro v8 sedans? how would you compare the car to them. I was considering a little C55 AMG.

damn. Love that thing, the only one we have at a dealership up here is a red V6.. :( How IS the auto trans on that thing, pretty crisp shifting?

The transmission is pretty slick, even in regular 'grandma' mode it's pretty smooth. Although, sometimes it seems to hiccup on the ups and downs so every once in a while it'll give you a "hard" shift... which in comparisson to my 2001 Chevy Silverado.. is still a smooth shift.
When in 'Sport mode' it's pretty quick, very smooth.
The e-brake handle is a bit different, but it's not that bad. The steering wheel, although looks a bit odd works pretty well. The steering is fairly heavy at slower speeds and feels precise. The car has a pretty tight turning radius which is suprising.
If you can test drive one, I highly recommend it. The rear seats and truck are huge. So it makes for a very comfortable Grand Touring (GT) car... it just happens to have 360hp. *evil*
The handling, man... you would never realise the car is so heavy by driving it. It's really tight, very fast to respond. You can feel everything in the road, mostly because of the suspension and ultra low profile tires. But it's kind of nice to still be able to feel the car on the road rather than have all your senses dulled out by ultra cushy stuffs.

Oh, a race shall be had between the Mustang GT/CS and the G8 GT!
And I'll let you try her out, if you let me try the Mustang!
Hmmm.. thinking about it. Both cars probably handle right about the same level. Interesting!

Since this is a DD I'm guessing you don't mind the auto transmission?
Anyhow, that's sweet. At least someone got a new car that's good. Those are a vast improvement over previous years. However, black? As Neutrino would tell you, everyone needs to own one black car once in their life to show them not to one ever again.

Actually, this is my play car... my truck is still my primary transportation. I use my truck for work, and for hauling various other 'stuffs' so it's still a vital tool for me.
I'm not found of automatics, but since Pontiac lied and originally said it'd be offered with a M6 transmission on their website but later changed it. Probably because I kept going to local dealerships asking when the fuck they were getting a Manual car to drive and all the sales people stared at me blankly saying "there is no manual..." and I kept saying "But Pontiac says there is on the website!!" Of course, this was long before they stated a GXP version was coming (but it was inevitable obviously).
... but I test drove the Auto... it's not bad. Plus, it's nice to be lazy and just push the loud pedal. (old man syndrome at an elderly age of 25...)

GXP will get marked up by those wanting the true "M5" performance. Plus, it'll require running on Premium gas, as where the GT runs just fine on the Regular. And it'll get about 10mpg in the city. lol...
It'll be a fast as hell car though, no joke.... maybe I'll trade up. hahah... who knows.

He speaks the truth!
I'm not found of automatics, but since Pontiac lied and originally said it'd be offered with a M6 transmission on their website but later changed it.
I don't think there is enough of a market for one, not with a six speed cog swapper GXP coming our way. Besides, APR already has a twin turbo auto one.
Seriously keep me updated on how this one works for you. Gas around here is cheaper than most places, but its still getting up there. I've comitted to performance cars, its that simple. I don't want a boring slow car ever again, lol. However, its getting to the point where a good chunk of my paycheck ever week is going towards gas. I don't mind paying for it, but if I could swing mid grade instead of 93, then I'd be golden. Especially since our mid grade around here is maybe better than the 91octane slop you get out there, LOL!
Epic purchase dude, enjoy it!

Congrats on the purchase Matty, although I never expected you to buy a 4000lb vehicle....numbers on paper sound great, though.
Hope the best for you and your new found purchase! But if you get destroyed by some boosted econobox, I demand you send the car back, and go find yourself a nice, gas-happy import...

For it's size, it's plenty fast. I don't expect it to beat everything out there. And I already know how fast the boosted imports can be. I may toy with a few of the boosted AWD kind. Most won't launch on the street hard enough to make the difference, so I may have a chance. :D
But other sport Sedans are what I'll most likely seek (n destroy!) like the G35s, the IS350s, and 3/5 Series, and various AMG types. Although the ladder of the group should put a hurt on me. Still fun to try. :D

I could never have a manual in a car like that. I would be dropping the clutch and melting the tires off every chance I got. I don't know about you guys, but I tend to drive faster when I am in a car with a manual. I don't care for that coasting in neutral feeling that most automatic cars give you.
I have had my eye on a used black C55 AMG down at the Benz dealer here. But talk about a gas burner. Not a good time for that purchase lol

This is info from a member of a GP forum I'm on...
Here are the dyno numbers from our G8GT :
298 rwhp 322 rwtq stock
309 rwhp 327 rwtq with New Era Intake
324 rwhp and 341 rwtq with New Era Intake and tuning (http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m=4341671&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1#)
We also did a pull with the stock air box and tuning and made 317 rwhp 336 rwtq
From what I've read they are mid/high 13's trapping at 104ish... Not to bad for a pretty heavy ride... In any case its one sick ass car... Pontiac isnt such a bad buy... I know I like mine...
Nice ride!!!

They're sweet, alright... At Pontiacs In The Park (VMP, last weekend in May), one from a local dealer was there to "Beat the Tiger". That's a staged bracket race with the GeeTo Tiger ('66 GTO, runs 10.80s). Anyway, it dialed in at 14.00 and broke out. That was with a salesman driving it. Put a real bracket driver in it and it went 13.82 @ 104. This was the GT. In talking to them, they said the GXP should easily go in the 13.50 range. They're also quite excited about the 6-speed version.

and yeah, i'll be the first to tell you that GM is capable of making some damn good auto trannies. i expect that thing would shift significantly better than an auto stang.
and also black cars generally put down about 10whp more than cars of any other color, so good choice!
