Paint body first or the trim?

I'm working on my first model (mini cooper) primered and ready to be painted. I wanted to know what would be the best way:

1. paint the whole body without any masking (such as door trims), polish, then mask, and do the trims.

2. Mask the trims first, paint the body, polish the body, then do the trims.

3. Same as #2 but leave the polishing after the trims are painted as well.

Think of how the real car is built. the bare body is painted, then the chrome trim is attatched. the same should be best for most models. Sometimes, however it is easier to do the trim first, mask it off, then paint. or (in the case of body script work, emblems, etc.) place bare metal foil on trim/script and leave it un masked, then remove paint from the trim to get a really crisp, clean look on your body mouldings.

For a beginner, however, paint the entire model, then mask off for the trim, spray it with chrome silver, and remove the mask as soon as the paint is dry to the touch on the masking material.

in the case of the mini, you're better off painting body first then doing the trim.
I'd also recommend Bare Metal Foil instead of painting it.
