Shiftting definetly tooooo looose ? #@$

ok today i had to move my uncles 96 accord and the shifter is so firm the shiter will not be able to chake if in gear eveen in neutral it can only move sideways . Compered to my 89 civic wich's shifter is too loose i'm think of making like a plate that i would hide under the boot .it';s kinda hard to explain let me show you a drawing...

What do you guys think ? theirs probably a part they sell that could fix this prob ?

I think ive seen those on some cars, like the more expensive race cars and shit... I guess if you bolt it to something , and make sure that when the stick goes into one of the slots, it actually goes into gear then your fine... Good luck, peace

Dude...the bushings and stuff are all loose...don't make a plate...there is a bolt that connects your shifter to the linkage under the car...that whole assembly has rubber o-rings and grease and stuff inside the shifter and all that wears out and creates slack and sloppiness.

A new shifter would help, but you can prolly make it 90% better just by tightening up that bolt....or rebuilding the bushing...you can get the o-rings (or at least size them and buy 'em at a Home Depot) and then also get some white lithium grease to grease all that up as you re-assemble.
