Metal Brake Lines

A friend of mine I were chatting the other day and I had a complaint that the brake pedal feels slightly mushy when you have to slam on them and his solution was metal brake lines.

Has anyone tried this installation?

mmm, could be a leaky master cylinder, or even some old fluid. Could even be a small amount of air in the lines. Seems like SS brake lines have pros and cons, but I cant recall either one at the moment.

When was the last time your brake fluid was changed? A power bleeder and a big can of brake fluid might just be the ticket, and at probably the same cost as a set of lines.

Havn't changed it since I've had the car; it's pretty low miles, but 7 years is a long time if its still on the OE fluids. I'm saving up my fluid changes for sometime this month (12,000 miles on an oil change is all the further my guts will let me take it). I'll have to try bleeding the brakes then. But the idea was to firm up the brake feel/response beyond what even the best conditions the stock setup could deliver (I'm not exactly looking to do the 12" rotor upgrade, although after every time I drive my dad's Mazda 6, I feel a slightly shorthanded by GM).

And a question for Hoov: how has that U-bend delete affected your O2 sensor life?

I cant say for certain how its affected my rear o2 sensor. I do get an occasional P420 code, which is from the rear sensor. But, I dont know if its from a bad sensor or from using a cheap catalytic converter, I ended up buying some no-name converter, so it might not be up to par.

I cant nail it down for sure, because it will go months without throwing a code, then Ill get it twice in the same week.

I really cant say I noticed a tremendous performance increase from the exhaust work either. Seemed like the intake pepped it up, or maybe it was a combination of the two. My brake and suspension mods have been the most noticeable.

You might check around some other W-body body forums, for the Grand Prix, Monte Carlo, Impala, etc, to find some people who have actually done the switch to the SS brake lines, get some testimonies instead of opinions?
